Updated NBA Win Totals: Without Nowitzki, Mavs’ total tumbles; Are the Nuggets a sleeper?

October 30, 2012

It’s been nearly a month since the LVH SuperBook released NBA season win totals, and there’s been a decent amount of movement on over/unders for more than half of the listed teams.

The biggest move was on the Dallas Mavericks, who opened at 45.5 but are currently at 41.5. When the total was released back in early October, we knew nothing of Dirk Nowitzki’s planned knee surgery. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on Oct. 21, and is expected to be out until late November and possibly early December.

A few of the other biggest moves:

  • The Charlotte Bobcats went from 21.5 to 18. Charlotte is one of the youngest teams in the league and has seven players with three years of experience or less, including Kemba Walker and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.
  • The Los Angeles Lakers opened at 59.5 but are now at 56.5, a decline that likely has everything to do with a) potential team chemistry issues and, more importantly, b) injuries. They went winless in the preseason.
  • How about a riser? The Denver Nuggets went from 49.5 to 52, and there’s some sense that they could be a sleeper in the Northwest Division.
