College basketball statistician Ken Pomeroy joined The Dan Le Batard Show on 790 The Ticket in Miami on Monday, and was asked about his influence on the sports betting marketplace.

In particular, Pomeroy was asked if he’s hated by bettors.

We should probably stop underestimating what Michigan State can do in conference play once the calendar flips to January each season.

The Spartans had a Big Ten-only win total set at 9.5, and with three games remaining they’re already 11-4, making them possibly the biggest overachiever of the 2012-13 college basketball regular season. Read on for the win total results (and/or projections) from other schools.

Dana Altman’s Oregon Ducks are the last remaining unbeaten team in Pac-12 Conference play after coming away with a big win at UCLA on Saturday, and suddenly, the road to the regular-season title goes through Eugene, Ore.

That wasn’t the case before the season.

The Duke Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday at NC State, and now a Duke fan is looking to bet them as big home favorites tonight against Georgia Tech.

Based on Coach K’s ATS history after a loss, however, that might not be a great idea.

In case you’re unaware, here’s the situation in Big 12 basketball: Kansas has won the league eight straight years, they’re favored to win it again this year, and they’ll probably be favored again and again forever and ever until Bill Self either retires or makes the jump to the NBA.

Even so, backup point guard Naadir Tharpe doesn’t seem to understand.

In his first year as head coach at Illinois, Bruce Weber held a mock funeral for Bill Self, the man he replaced prior to the 2003-04 season.

The goal was to “kill off” Self, but it didn’t work. A decade later, the two coaches are competing in the same conference, and Self’s Jayhawks are kings in the Big 12. Read on for a look at conference win totals for marquee teams.

Texas figures to be a longshot to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in March without Myck Kabongo, who was suspended by the NCAA today for the remainder of the 2012-13 season. Even so, the Longhorns somehow have the second-best odds to win the Big 12 Conference, behind only Kansas.

Rick Majerus died Saturday at age 64, and today, many are remembering his legacy as a person and as a coach. In an ESPN.com column, Gene Wojciechowski paid Majerus, a long-time friend, the ultimate compliment.

“Majerus was worth at least three points [to the spread],” he wrote. “Probably more.”

The North Carolina Tar Heels (+150) are favored to win this year’s Maui Invitational, and given that they are the only ranked team in the field, that isn’t much of a surprise.

But here’s what is: Texas has the second-best odds.

It sneaks up on us every year, but it’s back.

College basketball season is here once again, and it begins today with a 44-game card that features Michigan State-Connecticut (live from Germany!) and Georgetown-Florida (both without key pieces from last year’s teams).
