Oddsmakers think SEC has roughly a 1-in-3 chance to win 7th straight BCS championship

August 21, 2012

Any college football fan who knows anything about anything knows that the SEC has won six straight BCS national championships.

It’s the most dominant conference in the country, and this year Alabama, LSU, Georgia, South Carolina and Arkansas—which make up half of the Associated Press preseason top 10—all figure to be contenders to make it seven in a row.

On the Dan Patrick Show the past couple days, they’ve been polling the audience about who you’d take if given the choice in 2012 … the SEC or the field?

The response from listeners has been fairly 50-50, but now The Greek has provided some odds to add to the debate.

So, there ya have it. Because it’s The Greek, these odds aren’t available to bet for any U.S.-based customer, but it’s still interesting to note that oddsmakers think the SEC has roughly a 1-in-3 chance of continuing its run.

We would’ve expected odds closer to 50-50, given that Alabama and LSU are two of the top three favorites, and Georgia is pretty much a lock to win it.
