Kentucky football is expected to be so bad this season that some Las Vegas tourists make special trips to sportsbooks just to bet against them.
Clay Travis, a writer at Outkick The Coverage, is one such person. Based in Knoxville (and an obvious Kentucky hater), Travis waltzed into a Cantor sportsbook last month and plopped down $1,000 on the Wildcats to fall shy of 4.5 wins.
A win would return just $689, a horrible bet in theory. Kentucky’s win total opened at 5.5 (+105 under) in the spring, meaning Travis could have earned a plus-money return while also getting an extra win of wiggle room had he bet it earlier.
But Travis doesn’t seem to mind. And neither do the hundreds of other people who appear to be pounding Kentucky’s under. The Wildcats will be double digit underdogs in eight of their 12 games and Joker Phillips will probably lose his team by midseason.
At 5Dimes, which was the first offshore to release win totals, the Wildcats’ over/under is currently 5.5 (under -430). That’s a move of 475 cents since the opener! By kickoff, it might make its way to -500.
Aside from Penn State, Kentucky’s line move is easily the biggest we’ve seen.
