Regardless of opponent, former bookmaker says Alabama -5 or higher in BCS title game

October 29, 2012

The list of BCS championship game hopefuls has been trimmed down to about eight.

In addition to the four unbeatens at the top (Alabama, Kansas State, Oregon, Notre Dame), there are several one-loss teams (LSU, Georgia, Florida, Florida State) that could play their way into the picture if a few breaks go their way.

Alabama is the heavy favorite to return to the title game and is expected to be favored against any opponent. But by how much? Todd Fuhrman, a former bookmaker at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, recently tackled that question.

According to Fuhrman, now a writer at Outkick The Coverage, Alabama is a projected 5-point favorite over Oregon and a nine-point favorite over Florida State. Every other opponent, Fuhrman believes, would be installed as a double-digit underdog.

Interestingly, the team that has the worst chance—Florida State—is a projected favorite against every potential opponent except Alabama and Oregon. Fuhrman thinks the Seminoles could be anywhere between a 2-point favorite (LSU) and a 4.5-point favorite (Notre Dame).

The Irish would be listed as an underdog against every possible opponent.
