PrintThe LVH Supercontest has reached the midway point.
An entry named “Kurly” is in first place with a 28-10-2 record (73 percent), followed by Sully Sports (28.5 points), Heisenberg (28) and a handful of others with roughly 27 points.
Way down at the bottom, in 745th place, is someone named “G5.” We are pretty sure he quit. Either that, or he has a terrible proxy who can’t seem to submit his picks by the entry deadline. G5 is 10-9-1, meaning his picks have been submitted only half the time. He has 10.5 points, tied with Motorboating Sobs, who is 10-29-1 and has a win rate of 25 percent.
Then there is us. We’re Futility U, a reference to a late 1980s Sports Illustrated article that called Kansas State “the worst football program in America.” Odd timing, huh? This year’s Wildcats are 8-0 overall and No. 2 in the latest BCS standings.
We are currently 23-17 (57.5%) and in a tie for 100th place. We go 1-4 or 4-1 almost every week with an occasional 3-2 mixed in and have yet to put together an unbeaten or winless card. Our team consists entirely of BTB Forum members, four in all, and we are believed to be the only Supercontest team that made a mid-year change.
One team member became so frustrated by our weekly process (and justifiably so, perhaps), that he quit after Week 5. Probably a smart move in retrospect, given that there’s a very, very, very good chance that we don’t finish in the money.

Knowing us, we’ll probably end up making it a play.
