Last August, a few days after the Little League World Series got underway, we called up three involved regional representatives and asked them to answer a very simple question.
We’ll get to the question in a moment, but first, here’s their answers:
“I can’t help you.”
“I have no idea.”
“Sorry, I’m not sure.”
Again, all three people were asked the same question. Each of them responded in much the same way. And, to be sure, all of them seemed uneasy and expressed a clear desire to hang up the phone as quickly as possible.
The question: “Did you know that offshore sportsbooks are allowing people to bet on Little League games?”
The responses were predictable. What parent of a 12-year-old kid wants sports bettors to have the opportunity to bet on the outcomes of youth games?
Fortunately for them, they won’t have to worry about it anymore. Little League betting is unlikely to be offered this year, and 5Dimes sportsbook has already confirmed that it won’t get involved with it.
Looks like we’ll all have to find another way to occupy our afternoons from mid to late August.
