PrintOK, angry, overreacting New York Jets fans. Time to put your money where your mouth is.
The Jets lost 17-12 in their third preseason game last night, dropping the team’s overall record to 0-3. More alarmingly, the Jets failed to find the end zone for the third straight game.
New York has scored 30 points in three games—all field goals—and the quarterback controversy between Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow has intensified for all the wrong reasons.
In a perfect world, the Jets would start Sanchez and let Tebow push him to become the Pro Bowl caliber player the team wants him to be. Instead, Sanchez has looked so god-awful that the Jets might just say, “Screw it. First quarterback to lead the team into the end zone first wins the starting job.” (Current drought: 35 drives, 174 plays.)
Some Jets fans are convinced the team will fall shy of their win season win total, currently set at 8.5 at most Las Vegas sportsbooks. Others, in typical Jets fan fashion, insist the team will finish dead last—below even the Miami Dolphins.
To which we say, again, put your money where your mouth is.
5Dimes sportsbook released NFL divisional props on Monday, allowing you to bet which place any of the 32 teams finishes in by season’s end. Currently, the Jets are +260 to finish last in the AFC East, meaning a $100 bet would return $260.
A few of the more interesting odds:
- A last-place Patriots finish in the AFC East would yield a return of 33-to-1.
- The Colts are 6-to-1 to finish second in the AFC South. Look at their schedule. It’s possible.
- Think the Browns will finish last in the AFC North? You’ll need to lay $300 to win $100.
