You can call them stubborn, but a better description is probably level-headed.
Despite the Baltimore Orioles’ sustained surprise start to the 2012 season, offshore oddsmakers refuse to budge much on their futures odds. The Orioles, with a 27-15 record, are on top of the American League.
“We’re a fourth of the way through the season,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said recently, “and there are no Cinderellas, there are no flukes. If you have a weakness, it’ll show up. That’s the beauty about playing so many games.”
Judging by the AL East futures odds at Sportsbook.ag, bookmakers don’t view Baltimore as a legitimate contender in a stacked division.
The AL pennant futures odds at BetOnline aren’t much better. If you put together AL Power Rankings based strictly on the standings, the Orioles would be on top.
But we’re not that foolish, and BetOnline suggests Baltimore has the ninth-best chance of winning the American League at 25-to-1.
I can’t say I disagree. My fade of the Orioles starts today.
