PrintThose who bet the Philadelphia Phillies to surpass their regular season win total will likely be ripping up their tickets by the end of the week.
The Phillies are 57-65 overall and must finish 37-3 down the stretch to eclipse their over/under of 93.5 wins. Of all the World Series contenders, no team other than the Angels has underachieved as much as the Phillies, who have battled injuries throughout the season.
Los Angeles has tried to battle back from an 8-15 April but continues to hover around .500. Entering Tuesday’s games, the Angels were 62-60 overall, nine back of first-place Texas. The Angels must go 31-9 the rest of the way to reach their 92.5 win total.
A few other teams expected to fall shy of preseason expectations:
- Boston must finish 32-8 (win total: 90.5)
- Colorado must finish 35-7 (win total: 81.5)
- Miami must finish 29-10 (win total: 84.5)
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Orioles, Pirates and Athletics have all overachieved to this point. The Orioles (66-56) must finish just 4-36 to reach their win total of 69.5, while the Pirates and A’s must each win only seven games.
Washington, which leads the NL East at 76-46, needs only eight wins in its final 40 games.
