Here’s something that you might not know about Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein, the current favorite to win the Heisman Trophy after opening the year with 80/1 odds.
His former coach, Ron Prince, actually switched him to receiver in 2008.
Throughout his career, Klein has been out of position and was often overlooked. The same can be said of his Heisman Trophy candidacy. Twenty-four players had better odds prior to the season, despite the Wildcats being nationally ranked and despite Klein putting up better numbers last year than a previous Heisman winner, Eric Crouch.
But here Klein is, leading unbeaten Kansas State (7-0) to a No. 3 BCS ranking and a potential trip to the national championship game. Last week, he outdueled West Virginia’s Geno Smith, the previous favorite to win the Heisman.
In the latest odds released by Sportsbook.com, Klein is listed at -150 to win the award. He’s followed by Smith and Matt Barkley (both 7/2), and then Braxton Miller (9/2) and A.J. McCarron (10/1).
