Yes or no: Fantasy helps MLB betting
Do you play fantasy baseball? If so, does it help you bet MLB?

If yes, how?

Yes, and Yes.

I think knowing the matchups and how well certain players are performing certainly helps when handicapping baseball. More so for starting pitchers that are on your team. Not saying that Fantasy Sports is a major difference maker, but it definitely does have its benefits.

Absolutely.

Keeping track of players and their stats can only help.

I stopped playing fantasy baseball this year, and subsequently my lack of overall baseball knowledge has dropped. So yes, I think fantasy baseball helps. It certainly doesn't hurt.

RE: Yes or no: Fantasy helps MLB betting
Yes to both.

Similar to what has been stated before, knowing more about players (pitchers in particular) is only beneficial. Plus it gives you knowledge of many players throughout the league. So most people might not know how good/bad the 3rd SP on Seattle is, but people in deep fantasy leagues probably know all about him.

We've got guys over on LD who used to be strictly Fantasy sports players, daily fantasy to be precise. They've since begun to try their hand at sports handicapping. All of them are proving to be very knowledgable...and profitable. They can flat breakdown the match-ups. Our legacy sports cappers often leverage the fantasy guys thoughts prior to making any bets. I think it's an exceptional tool to have in the bag.

Hey, and let me finish that thought. I also think that sports betting enables daily fantasy play. Each day we run a thread in the fantasy forums (MLB for example) that is specific to that days games. Before anyone starts debating line-ups, the thread creator will post snapshots of the different team total lines from Pinnacle. They do this to help determine who to "stack", which simply means selecting several players from the same team. They tend to lean towards batters from teams who are projected to have high totals and obviously stay away from starting pitchers who Vegas thinks will give up a lot of runs.

There's great confluence and synergy between sports betting and daily fantasy sports.

If yes, how?

I think it goes both ways. By that I mean I think playing fantasy baseball helps me with my bets and betting helps me with fantasy baseball. Prior to betting on baseball I just played fantasy and I would just pick players who I thought would do good without ever looking at anything vegas was putting out and I would do ok but not great. Now that I look at what vegas has to say (Game totals / Team Totals / who should win the game) I crush the competition on a regular basis.
I know that when picking my hitters on my fantasy team I should try to focus on hitters that not only pass the fantasy eye test but that are on teams that vegas projects to score a lot of runs (Team Total of 5, 5.5, or 6) and when picking my Pitchers I should focus on pitchers that are facing a team that vegas projects to have a low score (2.5, 3, or 3.5) which this vegas knowledge I am able to get a edge on most of the fantasy competition who never checks vegas lines... For example today I seen people talking about Lynn (STL) being a good start but looking at the Royals team total (4.5) I knew Lynn would be a bad start today and sure enough vegas was right and Lynn got rocked. If I didnt check the vegas lines I might of started Lynn but since I check team totals I didnt even bother wasting my time on breaking down Lynn's matchup since I only chose SP's that are facing a team that has a team total of 3.5 or lower. Now does this work 100% of the time? no of course not but it works more often then not and allows me to turn major profits playing daily fantasy on a consistent basis....

Now how does fantasy baseball help me bet on games? It helps me because as a fantasy baseball player I know everything about every player I know which players / teams hit righties well I Know when a player is going to be rested I know which hitters own certain pitchers and which pitchers own certain hitters. Knowing all this information can and does help me predict which teams will win and which games will go Over or Under. There is so much more to capping a game then just looking at line movement and I think every tool you have can help you become a better capper.

Sorry if I ran on a little bit. I suck at trying to put what I am thinking into writing. But if you really want to know then just try to play daily fantasy baseball for $$$ and you will see how much it will help you with your capping and you will see how much your capping knowledge will help you with building your fantasy lineups each day.
