Would this be a good rule change for college basketball?
From a Grantland article:

"If a team trailing on the scoreboard is fouled, they have the option to (a) accept the free throws (assuming they are in the bonus), or (b) decline the penalty and take the ball out of bounds at the point of the infraction, or at midcourt (whichever location they prefer)."

Designed to prevent teams from purposely putting the opponent on the line when leading by 3 in the final seconds (to prevent a possible tying 3-pointer).

I personally think it needs tweaking. A guy in the comments section said a foul in the final seconds with a team up by 3 should still result in free throws, but all players must stand outside the 3-point line while the player shoots his free throws. Penalty-kick style like in soccer.

I like that idea. Can you imagine the mad scramble and ensuing chaos when the player purposely misses the second as 9 other guys rush in from the 3-point line for the rebound. It'd be intense!

Panic Panic Panic

No fouls in the final 1 min. Animal Ball style. No traveling, either.

I think there should be a 4-pointer behind half court. Would be sweet to see someone pull up from behind half court and launch it on a regular basis.

LOL at these.

I've always thought a shot from the center circle should be worth five points. It'd be hilarious to see teams come up with a strategy to use this if they're behind by about 25 points in the second half.

Love the no traveling addendum, SkyBlues. They should also lower the rims to 6 feet in the final minute. Or, screw that, just bring out the old Little Tykes goals along with a mini-basketball.

LOL

I like the idea of giving the fouled team the option, which would prevent the end of games from being free-throw shooting contests.

If one player hits three consecutive shots at any point .. he's allowed to goal-tend until the other team makes a basket.

And he has unlimited turbo and can shove people out of bounds non-stop until he gets the ball.

You have to wear gloves because the ball is so hot and the nets catch on fire after every shot.

If overtime was played like NBA Jam/Hangtime, it would be the most entertaining sport out there.

Gosh, NBA Jam is soooooooo unrealistic. Paul Pierce hasn't dunked a basketball since 1998. LOL

Looks like he's about to front-end that dunk.
