RE: The Philly Godfather thread
I did forget part c) of why I think people don't help, and one of BTB's blog posts triggered it.
c) I think some people are afraid to give bad advice. BTB mentioned that he doesn't give out a lot of plays, because he knows people will take them without doing any research. I think some people are afraid to show how they look at game, because they don't want to hear the reaction if someone tries their methods and they don't work. I give out plays/leans/game advice on Twitter all the time, and I hate it. But, people keep asking for it, so I do it. I don't know if it's successful or not, because frankly I don't track it (I don't post every bet I make on Twitter, especially the live stuff I do in soccer; it's too time sensitive). I used to hate losing, because I lost money, but now I hate losing, because I know other people have lost money. No matter how many plays win, or how much good betting advice I give out, the losses hurt 10k times worse. Knowing that, I can see why some people don't share their information. Some people can't deal with having their persona, of being a hot-shot gambler, busted when they give out advice and it blows up. I try to be understanding of this when looking for advice, but hopefully we'll get more and more people here that trust that they're giving good advice, and will give it knowing that they're trying to help, instead of sitting on the sidelines.
