The Bottled Water Bandit
So I'm in line at the grocery store the other day, and the lady in front of me is frantically shoveling her overloaded cart of goods onto the conveyor belt thingy. She's gets them all up there, but forgets one thing.

A 24-pack of bottled water that she had left in the undersection of the cart. I start to say something, but then I stop myself. "I want to see if she gets away with this," I think.

Sure enough, as I'm watching her, I notice her peer down at the bottled water as she pushes the cart closer to the cashier. She clearly realized what she was doing. Doesn't say anything.

As she's loading the bags into her cart, she still doesn't say anything. As she's paying her final bill, she still doesn't say anything. And then she wheels off, out the automatic doors and into the parking lot, free bottled water and all.

If you were me in that situation, would YOU have said something?

No. She's obviously preparing for the end of days that the Mayans predicted. She needs all of those supplies to sit in the bomb shelter her husband spent three years constructing just for 2012.

You're right. This is a probably a weekly occurrence for her. Soon I'll be begging her for water when she's queen of the post-apocalyptic world.

LOL

A new grocery store just opened by my house and I went the other day. I was amazed to see a mirror setup installed that allows the check-out cashier to look under the cart without having to leave to register. I guess stores are getting wise to the move you saw pulled off ChiefZilla.

1) I expected something different when I opened this thread.
2) Had a buddy in college that swore by this move.

I wouldn't have spoke up. I would have done the same as you, just observe the situation and use it as entertainment.

I'm surprised it's taken them this long. Doesn't it seem like people have probably been trying this for decades?

RE: The Bottled Water Bandit
Part of me says it should be the store's responsibility to check the bottom of carts to make sure that people aren't walking off with goods that they didn't pay for.

Part of me says there's a personal responsibility not to be a douche. But personal responsibility is a lost art.
