Teasers
When betting teasers my book (5dimes) uses the lines with extra juice (not the standard -110 lines). Does anyone know a way around this?

As an example, the Eagles are -8.5 (-110). When I go to the 6pt Teasers section the spread is -4. It is calculated from the -10 line (+115). I want to be able to get the spread to -2.5 to take advantage of crossing -7 and -3.

RE: Teasers
Hmm, just checked it and that's very strange. I've always done my teasers on BetOnline, for whatever reason, so I've never noticed that.

Anyone know how to change it?

RE: Teasers
Thanks Chief Z. Are you saying BetOnline does the same thing and you never noticed until now, or BetOnline calculates the teaser spread off the -110 spreads.

RE: Teasers
No, I'm saying BetOnline does the teasers off the -110 spreads, so I've never had a problem with them.

Use the teasers drop-down menu.

RE: Teasers
Oh, shoot. I see what you mean now. Yeah, there's no way around this. In fact, I'm fairly certain that 5Dimes uses these 'alternative' lines as the default for two main reasons:

1. To give the APPEARANCE that they have a different line than everybody else.
2. To guard against teasers.

As an example, the Eagles are -8.5 (-110). When I go to the 6pt Teasers section the spread is -4. It is calculated from the -10 line (+115). I want to be able to get the spread to -2.5 to take advantage of crossing -7 and -3.
Curious if they tease the dog in that situation and use the 8.5?
If so,that's pretty slick. And a pretty decent edge for the house.

Just took a look. The 6pt teaser spread is +16 for the dog. Again, it's using the +10 (-130) line instead of the +8.5 (-110) line.

RE: Teasers
With the above said, should I avoid teasers since they are not based off the -110 lines?

I would actually consider signing up for a second book. Use BetOnline (as previously mentioned by Chiefzilla) or any other book that uses -110 lines for teasers.

5Dimes is still a great book, so I wouldn't cash out. Just use 5Dimes for your normal bets, and use betonline for teasers. Something like that could work, would also allow you to do a bit of line shopping.

RE: Teasers
I think you need to look at this on a case by case basis. If you liked the skins and the +16 you would probably be getting the best of it.
5 Dimes has the rep of being a public book. So they tend to shade lines to protect themselves. this can be good if you look for contrarian value.
In fact if sportsinsights is correct the line is now at 10+110 while the more steady guys like Pinnacle and Bookmaker are still at 8.5
As skyblues says, you should get as many outlets with different numbers as possible.

RE: Teasers
I've got a question about teasers. Is it only an online book thing? Such as, can I go to the window at Caesers and say I want a two team teaser parlay? I know football has the teaser parlay cards, but I wasn't sure about being able to bet it at a casino. Thanks

RE: Teasers
you can bet teasers off the board at the majority of sportsbooks in Vegas. Each place will have different house rules and payouts based on the number of points you are teasing. We allow it in regular season football and basketball, but not for playoff games. Just ask your friendly writer for a copy of the house rules, or an information sheet. Not sure, but I'm guessing every place does an info. sheet and this will provided the payouts on standard parlays, along with teasers. Because of the variation of payouts, it does pay to shop around a bit. If you are on the strip, send me a private message and I can get you a list of which casinos have different sportsbooks in them. For instance, Caesars and Flamingo will have the exact same lines and payouts since both are Caesars Properties.

Good luck!

RE: Teasers
Thanks for the info. I usually stay at another Caesers property, Harrahs and we usually go during football season. This year we are going over St. Pats so we will be out there for the basketball tournament. Where do you work?

RE: Teasers
i work for a company that runs sportsbooks mostly off the strip, not in any of the mega casinos. as it turns out, i will be staying at Caesars that weekend for a staycation and my wifes b-day.

that corner is nearly all Caesars properties(Harrah's, I.P., Flamingo, Bally's, Bills Gambling Hall, Paris and Caesars Palace). Bellagio is a MGM property, so if you pop over there, no need to go to south end of the strip or into mirage to compare lines/payouts. Treasure Island is across from you and is an independent book, then there is Venetian/Palazzo which are run by Cantor, so would be the same as Hard Rock and Tropicana. Across from Venetian/Palazzo is Wynn and Encore, both the same but not linked up to any other book in town. Hope that helps cut down on the line shopping for you.
