Lightbulb Sports betting references / tools / resources
Some of you have PM'd me expressing interest in contributing in some form or fashion, either by looking up stats or ATS history, etc., or by looking up your own stats and also writing them up into some sort of article.

The least I could do was offer you a few good sites or tools or resources to help you track down what you're looking for.

If you have any other suggestions, feel free to respond and add them to the list below.

BETTING TOOLS / SITES

Covers.com databases | I feel like I find something new on Covers every day. The amount of resources that exist there for the sports gambler seems unlimited.

Coaches By The Numbers | If you’re like me, and literally 50% of your college football handicapping is based entirely on coaches, then you will absolutely love this database. I’ve written about CBTN before, but the amount of coaching data the site’s owners have amassed is overwhelming and impressive.

Grey Matter Stats | Similar to the Covers database, GM allows you to search and sort data in all the major sports to your liking. I recently stumbled on this site, so I’m not completely familiar with it. But some of the features, such as the projected outcome success rates, etc., seem mildly intriguing.

Killer Sports | I’m not much of a trends guy, as I think many of them are misleading, particularly if I’m just randomly looking for them with no theory or explanation attached. But if trends are your thing, you’ll like some of the pages found at Killer Sports. Of particular interest will be the tables page and the query matrix page.

Playbook Tools | If you click here and look along the right side, you’ll see a tab marked “Betting tools.” There, you’ll find various searchable databases that will let you carve up ATS data in pro or college football and basketball over the last decade.

Pregame.com’s Sportsbook Spy | An incredible tool for gaining information on how the public is betting. On just one screen, you’re able to find out public betting percentages on spreads, money lines and totals.

REFERENCES

Baseball Reference | Every MLB stat you need to find will be located here.

Basketball Reference | Every NBA stat you need to find.

College Injury Report | The latest news on college basketball and football injuries. Through the years, the site has reported more than 4,500 injuries.

Fangraphs | Do you like baseball graphs?

Ken Pomeroy | A must-read for college basketball stats and info junkies.

Football Reference | Every NFL stat you need to find.

Journal of Quantitative Analysis in sports | If you’re in to academic research, you’ll love some of the articles you’ll find here.

Retro Sheet | Sign up for the mailing list if you’re a fan of baseball and random stats. A few interesting nuggets appear in my inbox daily, and on occasion it will spark an idea for further inquiry.

Scout.com’s news links | Click here to view Scout’s list of daily newspapers, websites, college football publications and school home pages, all broken down by conference and team. An incredible collection that is worthy of a bookmark.

Stathead | A sabermetrics blog that covers MLB, NFL and NBA.

Statsheet | The main site is pretty awesome in its own right, as there are 2 billion stats that you can sort, chart, slice and dice. But Statsheet also has a network of MLB team pages, too, which is worth a bookmark.

OTHER STUFF I'VE RECENTLY DISCOVERED

SBR Odds Archives | Has everything sorted by date; you can look up opening and closing numbers; halftime lines and totals; etc.

Sports DataBase | Same idea as Killer Sports or Grey Matter, I think.

CFB Stats | The ultimate site for college football stat junkies.

Bet Tracker | I have SportsInsights, but this seems like a simpler version of it.

Hopefully if people add things, you'll insert them into your comment and keep this nice and clean.

I wasn't sure where to put this because it doesn't correlate to your content above, but here's a link to watch a lot of sporting events on the computer. You know, if a friend needs it or something.

Find me here.

Don't you have a list of books somewhere, other than what's linked in the FAQ?

RE: Sports betting references / tools / resources
Was wondering where I would begin to find information on how to build black box models and databases for CFB. Have found information on what they are and how they work plus i know where to get the data needed its just figuring out how to create it. Any resources or sites to help with that would be great.

Check out the Handicapper Think Tank at SBR Forum. Lots of folks there can help you, but when you introduce yourself, remind them that they're all smarter than you and be self deprecating, otherwise they'll treat you like shit.
