Speaking for myself, I was after the truth, and there were many inconsistencies surrounding the Sarah Phillips story - inconsistencies that surfaced almost immediately after her hire.

Girl, boy, wolf, whatever, this person was a known scammer and did a lot of bad to a lot of people. Editors at both Covers and ESPN didn't give a shit about their readers, and essentially gave this person a platform to build her brand and to expand her empire in the face of dozens of questions that should have at the very least provoked a full review of her background, credentials, etc.

You all cared so much though because you wanted this fantasy to be real. I follow numerous "bettors" or Twitter and the amount of flirting and "Let's DM and chat" were hilarious. Everyone fed her ego, fed this whole "You are a girl and bet, you are an amazing person." And now those same people who propped her up are not thrashing her.

Everyone is guilty in this. You should know what you are getting into when you communicate with people on the Internet.
