Roy Williams in the ACC tourney
2-13-2 ATS all-time.

Round 1: 1-6-1
Round 2: 1-4-1
Round 3: 0-3

Fails to cover by an average of roughly five points per game. His tournament record, of course, isn't all that bad. He's 11-6 straight up.

Very interested to see what the Heels do this year. Duke has won three straight, and theoretically, UNC was supposed to have a superior team than the Blue Devils this year.

RE: Roy Williams in the ACC tourney
I bet the ATS trend continues. I could see the Tar Heels going 1-2 or 0-3 ATS and winning the ACC Tournament. But it all depends on who they play, and what line they get.

Roy Williams have never put much stock into the ACC tournament and their performance in it. I'd say that ATS record already painted that picture for you fellas, though.

RE: Roy Williams in the ACC tourney
and thanks to the thrashing they just gave Duke in Cameron, there will most likely be quite an over-inflated line for round 1

I'd have to look it up, but it seems like that was his M.O. with the B12 tournament when he was at Kansas, too. Seemed like a lot of talented teams got upset, only to go to the Final Four in the Big Dance.

Bill Self, on the other hand, is a different animal. He seems to win the B12 tourney every season.

RE: Roy Williams in the ACC tourney
Roy Williams stinks in the ACC Tournament.. but hes a spread-covering machine in the NCAA Tournament. Shows you where his priorities are. And I'm fairly certain he's been open about his opinions about the Conference/NCAA Tournaments. He wants National Championship.

I believe Williams is 15-7-1 ATS in the NCAA Tournament -- with the Tar Heels. Not sure what his record turns out to be with the Jayhawks included. Assuming it would improve, but you know what they say about people that assume...

RE: Roy Williams in the ACC tourney
The only thing here to me is that with the how bad the ACC is to me personally, I don't know if any of these teams keep close to UNC on a neutral floor. But I don't know how big the lines will be for UNC.

Like Chief mentioned.. I would have to imagine they'll be inflated after that road win over Duke.

This.

A quick note from the Dook game: Dook shot 6/21 from 3 (28.6%). I think their season average is around 38%, which would have netted them an extra 2 makes if they were on par. Still not nearly enough to cover the 18 point gap. UNC just came out with something to prove.

Oh, and here's an article that does a better job explaining what I was saying about the Heels defensive strategy:

RE: Roy Williams in the ACC tourney
Thought this might be useful to add to the discussion. Just looked up Williams in the Big 12 tourney while he was at Kansas (back to 1997-98)...

2002-03 -- 1-1 SU/0-2 ATS
2001-02 -- 2-1 SU/2-1 ATS
2000-01 -- 1-1 SU/1-1 ATS
1999-00 -- 1-1 SU/1-1 ATS
1998-99 -- 3-0 SU/3-0 ATS
1997-98 -- 3-0 SU/2-1 ATS
Total -- 11-4 SU/9-6 ATS

So I guess my memories of his teams flopping in the B12 tourney only applied to his last few years in the league.
