Information Please welcome StarStreet daily fantasy
We're pleased to announce that Star Street, a real money fantasy sports site that has been around for about two years now, will be joining the community as a forum sponsor.

Star Street runs a sports stock market as well as daily fantasy sports contests.

For those who haven't played daily fantasy sports yet, they are one day head-to-head contests where you and your opponent build a team and whichever team scores more points that night wins. So, it’s like traditional fantasy sports, but the contests last just one day. You can play for free or money on the site and get paid out that night. There are also tournaments starting up in June and freerolls very soon for you guys to play in.

The first freeroll will be on Tuesday and we should have more details early next week. If you guys have any questions, don't hesitate.

Visit Star Street by clicking here.

Seems like an interesting concept. Never seen a site that offers the "market" approach they do, where you can essentially treat fantasy players like stocks.

Hmm...

Do any of you guys use StarStreet? I've been thinking about giving it a shot for a long time. Would love to hear some opinions from people with experience.

RE: Please welcome StarStreet daily fantasy
Hey guys, we are really excited to be partnering up here and look forward to you guys trying us out. If you have any questions about how things work, please let us know.

Just to give a quick breakdown, we run two types of fantasy games. The daily contests which some of you may be more familiar with and then our sports stock market. The stock market has been going since 2010 and the daily games were added this March. We have over 1,200 real money players going right now and we expect it to grow a lot as we roll out these freerolls and tournaments.

For the daily games, you get a budget of $100,000 and pick the players under that budget who you think will perform best. We don't make you fill out specific positions though, you actually choose how many shares of each player you want. Our traders really love this style of play because it lets you put confidence in your picks. So if you think Albert Pujols is going to have a big night and he costs $8k, you can buy 9 shares of him if you'd like. So instead of filling out all the positions with guys you may not care about, this gives you more creativity in your picks.

For our stock market, traders buy and sell shares of players with other traders on the site. All our player values move up or down based on fantasy points and the market runs from the start of a season until the end of the regular season. When the season is over, all the stocks are retired and their values are paid out to the shareholders. The markets are zero-sum, meaning that every dollar invested in the market through IPOs are paid out at the end of season. As one stock price goes up, another will go down. All player values move based on the player's fantasy performance against his projections. We have videos on the site and full FAQs and explanations if anyone is interested in learning more.

I used that draft day thing a little while back but never star street. The stock market thing is an intriguing concept. I'd be curious to know how many people they have that are active in the stock market.

Like, if I buy an under-the-radar player and he then explodes and increases his value three-fold, what's the likelihood I'll be able to sell him?

So, a question... you're taking a rake at all in the stock market? Every dime invested by a user is eventually paid out in some fashion?

We take a 4% commission on the sell side of stock trades in the market. That's the only commission we take on the stock market game. We don't take it when you buy a share, or buy IPOs or at the end of the year when the stocks are retired. So if you bought a share and held on to it all year until the season ended for example, you'd never pay a commission.

With regards to every dime invested is paid out, that's correct. All the money that is brought in through the IPOs is eventually paid out. The dollars raised in the IPOs (which sets the players values) is different from the buy/selling shares that happen once the player is in the market.

Here is a good example: If Bryce Harper has an IPO value of $1 per share and all 200 shares of him are bought, then $200 is added to the total value of the market. From there, traders can buy and sell him at whatever price they'd like. So if someone thinks he's going to be great this year, they can offer to buy him at $1.50 if they'd like because they think his value will go up as he performs this season.

So the buy/selling is like a negotiation between those that own his shares and those that want to buy them. If Bryce Harper was a new car, those that own his shares act like the car dealer and those that want to buy him are the consumer. His end of season payout value is like his Kelly Blue Book price.

If you bought shares of Harper during his IPO at $1, you can either hold on to him all year in hopes that he plays well and his value goes up, or you can try and sell him at a higher price if you think you can get more for him now than he'll be worth at a later time.

Does that make sense?

As you guys know, I hate - hate! - fantasy sports, though I'm fully aware that I'm pretty much alone on that island.

But this stock market thing is actually really compelling. Love

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. Thanks for the quick response.

Like I said, a very interesting concept. I assume there's a limit of 200 shares for every player that's offered?

Yep, every player has 200 shares (never more, never less) and you can own up to 40 shares per player.

RE: Please welcome StarStreet daily fantasy
how often to the IPOs come out? does a certain player need enough request to become an IPO?
this stock market idea makes sports even more entertaining.
thanks

Yeah, it's great when you invest in a player who ends up having a huge year and riding the wave.

We do most of the IPOs right as the season kicks off and then gradually every week after that until probably a month or two left in the season. We have 52 MLB players on the market right now. We'll get close to 100 for the NFL season. For MLB, we did about 5 a day for the first week and a half.

You can request IPOs for players by clicking request on the player pages. There is no set formula, just a feel thing. We like to do a good mix of young guys, sleepers and established stars.

RE: Please welcome StarStreet daily fantasy
I read through the FAQ but I still have a few questions:

1) Is there short selling?
2) Are there stop-losses? Or some other way to mitigate losses in the case of severe injuries?
3) What is a given player's fantasy "value" based on? What stats? And how are those stats combined to come up with a single number?

Thanks. Looks interesting.

1) It's coming soon. It's one of our most requested features.
2) You can set open orders, both for buy and sell orders. But there is no stop-losses. So if a player does get hurt, you will need to sell those shares to any open orders out there if you want to dump the stock. If you can't, you have to ride out the injuries as the player's value drops.
3) Here is our fantasy scoring breakdown. So for example, if someone goes 2-4 with a 2B, he'd get 2.5 points for the day. Carlos Gonzalez is currently the top player on the market with a price of $6.96 because he has scored the most fantasy points with 221 points. Ryan Braun ($5.30) is second with 198.3 points scored.

Thanks! We actually just released the new design last week. It was done so it works great on mobile. So if you check it out on your phone or tablet, you'll notice a fully optimized mobile site, which is awesome to use to play or track games in progress.
