Phil Steele's 'eliminator game'
From the main page:

Phil Steele used an elimination technique to pick 11 teams that could win the national championship.

Aside from USC being left off the list, is there any team that someone else has pegged as the national champ that didn't make the cut?

I know Georgia was a popular choice, but after the injury, I can't imagine it's as confident of a play now.

Seems like that's about it. I don't think this is the year for surprises. I guess there's a very small, outside shot at VA Tech making a title game appearance, but the ACC's going to struggle to get a team into the playoff unless Florida State puts together one of their "cant-do-wrong" seasons.

Why is USC such a favorite? Because of their QB?

I'm not as informed as most of you are with college football.

Barkley's part of it. National perception is another. Most talented WR group in all of CFB. Constantly have a top 5 recruiting class.

Just overall talent and skill. It's unrivaled in the Pac-12, except for maybe Oregon, and unrivaled to any other program in the country outside the top SEC schools.

Doesn't FSU have TWO FCS games on the schedule?

Yep. Murray St. and Savannah St. back-to-back to start the year.

WVU did back out on FSU late to force them to schedule a team willing to go to Tallahassee on short notice.

Also, it seemed like he eliminated TCU and WVU based on opinion rather than numbers like he had in the other stages of the article.

It seems like subtracting Stanford and adding USC would give you a good set of 11.

Maybe add Wisconsin? Dunno
