PGA Championship
Final Major this week! Then FedEx playoff time.

This tournament is the last tournament that includes Ryder Cup team points. Probably doesn't hurt to know who's in and who's on the bubble.

USA

Quote:The winner of this week’s PGA Championship will earn 2,880 points, meaning a player with 1,283.61 points can conceivably make the team. Phil Mickelson is currently No. 8 in the standings – last among those who would automatically qualify for the team. If Mickelson and others just below him fail to make the cut and earn no additional points, a player as deep as 36th in the points standings (and 119th in the Official World Golf Ranking) could qualify for the team.

Who are those players? They’re listed below with where they stand on the points list and their current world ranking.

9. Hunter Mahan – 4,082.23 – 14
10. Steve Stricker – 3,563.07 – 11
11. Jim Furyk – 3,318.12 – 28
12. Rickie Fowler – 3,313.34 – 20
13. Brandt Snedeker – 3,176.79 – 25
14. Dustin Johnson – 3,002.77 – 18
15. Bo Van Pelt – 2,952.98 – 27
16. Bill Haas – 2,460.77 – 29
17. Robert Garrigus – 2,459.25 – 57
18. Scott Piercy – 2,379.10 – 55
19. Kyle Stanley – 2,341.22 – 53
20. Kevin Na – 2,309.78 – 52
21. Johnson Wagner – 2,189.05 – 69
22. Ben Curtis – 2,170.71 – 79
23. Mark Wilson – 2,090.01 – 47
24. Michael Thompson – 1,917.36 – 60
25. John Huh – 1,906.64 – 68
26. David Toms – 1,898.88 – 35
27. Ben Crane – 1,808.67 – 56
28. Ryan Palmer – 1,773.82 – 87
29. Jonathan Byrd – 1,680.70 – 50
30. Nick Watney – 1,571.68 – 33
31. D.A. Points – 1,550.22 – 97
32. John Rollins – 1,442.64 – 101
33. Ken Duke – 1,407.47 – 119
34. Ted Potter, Jr. – 1,371.76 – 89
35. Spencer Levin – 1,353.23 – 75
36. Charley Hoffman – 1,285.69 – 114

Europe:

Quote:The top 5 after the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational (points in parentheses):

1. Rory McIlroy (2,859,350.76)
2. Justin Rose (2,286,013.74)
3. Graeme McDowell (2,257,697.58)
4. Paul Lawrie (2,073,367.70)
5. Francesco Molinari (2,048,671.24)

The next five players will be the highest five on the World Points List not already on the team. Currently, that handful of players would consist of the following in order of their position on the list (points in parentheses):

2. Luke Donald (359.31)
4. Lee Westwood (280.27)
8. Peter Hanson (173.57)
9. Martin Kaymer (172.26)
10. Sergio Garcia (158.85)

Olazabal will finalize his team by making two picks. Here are a few players currently on the wrong side of the bubble who will merit consideration:

Nicolas Colsaerts: The Belgian is a likely pick given his length and contending at both the U.S. Open and Open Championship.

Ian Poulter: Poulter is practically a lock to make the team given his high finishes in majors this year and Ryder Cup C.V.

Rafael Cabrera-Bello: Cabrera-Bello provides an easy captain’s pick for Olazabal, particularly if Garcia stumbles this week. His run at Firestone may have locked up a pick.

Padraig Harrington: Harrington needs another top-three finish before the cutoff. Doing it this week would be huge. A T-19 at Reno did not help, but did not hurt, his case.

RE: PGA Championship
This is coming from my buddy who is pretty good at handicapping golf.

The course is designed for long ball strikers. Couple guys worth looking at:
Nicolas Colsaerts- Big hitter been playing really well lately.
Scott Piercy- Big hitter also been playing really well lately.
Dustin Johnson- Very consistent top level player, big hitter
Alvaro Quiros- Possible top Spanish golfer prop at +600, big hitter and the favorite Sergio is very inconsistent

RE: PGA Championship
I was thinking about playin Johnson. Some compare this to course to whistling straits.
Other than the grounding his club mishap, he player well there.

I've also head that putting isn't as big of a deal here. If that's the case, lock Tiger in for a solid tournament.

Tiger always has a strong shot to win but struggles with Pete Dye courses so i would not bet him. 18 starts on Dye courses (15 at TPC sawgrass) with one win the 2001 players and only 1 other top 5

RE: PGA Championship
PGA championship known for long shots coming in and I think this year will be no different.

450-1 John Daly
He won PGA at crooked stick which is a course designed by Pete Dye same as Kiawah. The Pete Dye factor is big for me and I think Daly who has been playing well recently has great value to win and top ten finish

Robert Garriguss 100-1
His game suits this course being a long ball hitter and is at the top of his game

70-1 Bo Van Pelt
He has been one of the most consistent players this year with many top 10 finishes. Definite value here with 70-1 this could be the one he breaks through and wins.

Davis Love lll 250-1
No one has a better track record on Pete Dye courses than Love. Also some value in a top ten finish for Love

Trevor Immelmann 450-1
Has played the course before and did very well. A quality player that won the Masters only a few years back. See some value

Miguel Angel Jiminez 550-1
He can still play at his age and Ernie proved at the British age doesn't matter. Jiminez is a threat if the winds start picking up as this course will play more like the Open Championship being a links course and could see him excelling in those conditions

These long shot plays also give me an opportunity to hedge for some profit if need be. Hopefully i can get lucky again like i did with the Big Easy and cash on one of these guys

RE: PGA Championship
I gave Snedeker a shot at 80/1. Guy with a lot to prove in a major after his British Open collapse. Very outside shot at the Ryder Cup, but a top 3 at the British and a win at the PGA is certainly a good talking point.

RE: PGA Championship
I went with:

Jason Dufner +2300 - probably the best overall golfer
Matt Kuchar +3232 - needs a major win, would like to hold on to his Ryder Cup position
Padraig Harrington +4432 - won golf's World Cup at kiawah with Paul McGinely
Hunter Mahan +4991 - wants a Ryder Cup spot and is on the bubble
Bo Van Pelt +6723 - another all around solid steady player
Tim Clark +33717 - Flyer. More of a hunch than anything.
Bud Cauley +21475 - Playing well. Could be under the radar. Two top 5 finishes in his last two events.

I'll probably by a couple more on Friday night after the cut. No lead has been safe these last few weeks (I hate you Jim Furyk).

Good luck!

RE: PGA Championship
This course is a bombers paradise. And with it supposed to be wet all week, look for the long hitters to have a huge advantage. I have my eye on South Korean Seung-Yul Noh. Been very consistent this year. At +15000 worth a look at.

I like Seung-Yul Noh. I was looking at him at +280 in the South Korea Group bet on pinny.

I'll throw another in here from 5dimes after round 1

Vijay Singh 300-1

Early tee times are going to be at a big advantage tomorrow with easier to deal with weather. Tomorrow will play completely different than day 1 as winds pick up and saturday may be the same. Vijay has an opportunity to post a good score early tomorrow and contend on the weekend. Vijay has been playing well lately and won 04 PGA at whistling straits which was designed by Pete Dye

Good call

Picked up Miguel Angel Jimenez at 150-1 not bad considering the conditions, and his tee time 8:10 AM. Also get a nice start at -3.

I love that pick up by you. I was tempted to play him again at 150-1 being the early tee time and a 3 under round that could of been better. He should be able to play well in these tough conditions in the next few days

Im not sure about the early morning advantage. Wind is blowing pretty hard right now.
The advantage could come later in the calm after the storm... if they get out at all this afternoon.

RE: PGA Championship
I can't wait until 1230 CST to watch Daly play. Golf is so much better when he's in the hunt. How awesome would it be for him to win another major 17 years after his last one?

Please tell me someone got Daly at 450-1. Driving
