There were 36 regular season games played in the season series of these squads (Rangers/Sens played 4 times, Bruins/Caps 4. etc..) and only in 14 of those games was the total 6 or over and 4 were Pens/Flyers. The league is also letting a lot of obstruction/holding go undetected so I expect these games to be more low scoring than usual. Every O/U is 5 right now in game 1 except for Flyers/Pens which is 5.5 Round 1 Playoff Trends That being, I unloaded on the Salami Under 16.5 tonight.. some of the other Series I see Overs, but not tonight. Every O/U is 5 right now in game 1 except for Flyers/Pens which is 5.5 Link does give me pause, but I think you have to go a little bit deeper. Scoring is down by about 200 goals from last year and 350 from two years ago. The teams making the playoffs are scoring about 100 goals less than last year's playoff teams. Also here is something that may blow your mind. In 2010 Teams were shorthanded 9137 times. In 2011 it was down to 8715 times. This year? 8132 times. That's right in two years teams were shorthanded 1000 less times! It's unbelievable. They're letting more stuff go. Unless the NHL sent out some mandate this week to start calling everything it's going to be a free for all out there. Only 5 teams made the playoffs that were in the top half of times shorthanded. This may all go to hell in a handbasket, but I'll take my chances especially with The Rangers, STL, PHX, NJ, FLA, and Nashville in the mix. ![]()

My goal is to watch at least part of every NHL game. Gotta be honest, this first one seems like a snooze.

First period in the first game of a series is usually rough to watch. A lot of nerves on both sides, especially with a lot of young talent on all 16 of these teams. Follow me: @skatingtripods |

Anybody know what the Flyers were priced at on in-game betting when down 3-0?

No idea but I would love if someone had this info (damn work firewall won't let me search for it )BTB please tell me you watched more than the 1st period of that Flyers/Pens game? That is what playoff hockey is all about...momentum swings and down to the wire action! Sure there will likely be a few "snooze" stretches but the checking, matching of lines, etc keep it from ever getting boring. |

I am making an attempt to watch every game throughout the playoffs, or at least part of them. Great comeback. Enjoyed the Kings-Canucks game, too.

RE: NHL Playoff odds
Now we see the intense over reaction to one game in the playoffs. Bruins lost the first two games of their first series last year. FYI.
Canucks/ Kings are now both -110 to win the series as are Pens/Flyers. I'm making a wager on Vancouver to win the series right now. Don't think the odds will get much better than this. ![]()

Timely article today, BTB.
Both games tonight where the favorites were down 1-0 in the series saw the big underdog cash. Looks like I'll be playing the Sharks at +153 tomorrow strictly on value. MORE HOCKEY POSTS!!! :) |

Really hard not to ride the Philly-Pitt overs. Every year it seems like one series flies over no matter where the line is set.

I've taken both overs in Pitt/Philly and taken the unders in every other game to see how that would work out. So far taking out the Philly series unders are 1-3-5 so there's no value on the unders as I thought there would be. The refs are calling a lot more stuff and teams are really making the goalies work. Only one shutout so far which is surprising to me anyways. I'm pretty shocked what's happened in the Canucks-Kings series. The Kings have outplayed them in 2 games. Flat out. Quick has been good as usual, but they haven't needed him to steal a game yet. I can see a 42 save game coming from Quick in LA. Fun fact. Since the lockout 6 teams have come back down 2-0 to win a series. Pittsburgh and Marc Andre Fleury have done it twice. ![]()

Hockey posts are few and far between around here, but when they come, we sure make 'em count. ![]() Seriously, though, I'm watching every game of the playoffs and should have at least a post per day on average in the NHL. By the way: Interesting that the eighth-seeded Kings are now FOURTH in futures, no? Both Vegas favorites (Penguins and Canucks) are down 2-0 and aren't even favored to win their own series anymore.
