NHL Hedge Spot
Hi all, first time poster + longtime lurker. Have some questions about hedging the remainder of the Eastern Conference playoffs. (The parlay & heavy juice laid in the Devils series obviously were not the greatest bet in the first place) But to the facts...

Here is what is pending:

Ottawa (series): risk 2u to win 4u
New Jersey (series): risk 1u to win 0.5u
Parlay (Nashville series, Philadelphia series, Ottawa series, New Jersey series): risk 1u to win 20.5u

Panthers are +145 in game 6 & -225 for the series. The Devils are heavy favs to send their series to game 7, and the Rangers are likely to be -160 or so in game 7 on their own ice.

Thoughts on how to play this one?Hmm

RE: NHL Hedge Spot
Hey Robby,

For the Ottawa series, you'll probably see a game 7 line of Rangers -180ish. If you really don't feel good about it, you could lay the Rangers to effectively eliminate the Ottawa position. For example, you could go 3.6/2 on Rangers in Game 7. Break even if Rangers win, pick up some change if Ottawa wins.

For the Devils series, I think you have to stand pat and hope for a Game 7. I'm not sure if it gets there, but I don't think you have a move here without taking on unnecessary risk.

For the parlay, Panthers will be dogs in both Game 6 and 7 so you have options there to bet against Jersey at the cost of decreasing your potential parlay payout. One problem I see is that Panthers and Rangers game 7's will be on same day. You basically have to decide here if you want to play Panthers game 6 and effectively write off your Devils series wager in the process.

RE: NHL Hedge Spot
Thanks for the reply, appreciate all you do.

I thought about grabbing NYR at +170 for the series or so prior to game 6, but wanted to give them a shot to close it at home like Philly was able to.

If New Jersey pulls off game 6, like you said I can get a decent price on the Panthers in game 7. Hedging NYR would be painful, but hopefully necessary if New Jersey wins tonight to keep the 4-teamer alive. I'll stand pat on NJ tonight & hope for the best - thanks again!
