NFL public betting percentages

Here's a list of the total percentage of bets placed on NFL teams on a week-by-week basis. Obviously, the schedule can skew the results this early in the season, but it might be interesting to track as the season progresses.

To give you an example, public betting percentages on the Pats week by week were as follows: 76.0%, 62.1%, 60% and 65.9% = 66%.

Pretty interesting. I do know the public has been cleaning up on teasers in primetime games. Regardless of side or total, they're winning on everything.

Could be something to explore with Fuhrman.

How much value will the public's early success create for the sharps later in the season?

But, in turn, how will the books walk the tightrope of adding points to the public sides but preventing the sharps from pounding the underdog side at a more valuable, sometimes above key, number?

Is the volume of the public enough to compensate for the bigger bets of the wiseguys, especially if they start to get more value on dogs against public teams?
