Finding a sleeper-

I looked back at drafts 2000-2009 to find common traits with sleepers. I define a sleeper as a 4th-7th round pick, or free agent, who becomes a solid starter or star in the NFL.

Being from a small conference school accounts for 48% of the players I defined as sleepers.

I don't have the exact player evaluations, but recall that most of the players had good stats, good measurables, but were just looked over for playing in a lessor conference. I considered the Big 10, Big 12, SEC, PAC 12, ACC, Big East, Mountain west, WAC, and independents, as bigger conferences. Due to many traditional powers in those conferences.

As far as positional sleepers, the only conclusive positions that stuck out from the rest were in order- Wide Receiver, Running back, and Defensive end. Many being from small schools, and a few being undersized.

So when there is a productive guy, with all the physical tools, sitting there in the late rounds, everyone should hope their team takes a flyer on that receiver from Monmouth, or the defensive end from Idaho St.

I'll post my 2012 sleepers as the draft gets closer.
