I've never placed a bet on golf. To me, it seems like an absolute crapshoot. But, I'd like to get one or two in for the Masters.

I usually bet 2-5% of my bankroll on my NHL/NCAA/NFL bets, which is in the $20-$100 range.

For example, looking to bet Immelman at +12960. What would be a good rule of thumb to stake?

But seriously if you like Immelman at those odds, bet $10 max. There's too many favorites and hot golfers right now. If Immelman pulls it off and gets lucky like in 2008, you got $1296. I usually place around 5% of my bankroll on individual matchups. They're easier to contain on the unpredictable nature of golf. For futures, I'd recommend a lower amount based on the odds you get/how strongly you feel about the play. (I'd rather take Immelman against Furyk for the tournament at +105 if you're dead set on betting him but even then I'd recommend against it).
