Is Robert Griffin III really winning the Heisman?!?

My personal prediction is not always consistent with the results of my poll. In 2009–a particularly volatile and close race–I predicted a win for Colt McCoy while my poll picked Mark Ingram. My poll was right, as it turns out, though not by much.

This year, there is no contradiction. I am calling the race for Baylor’s Robert Griffin III. And I expect him to notch a comfortable win, winning four of the six regions.

At the beginning of the year, it was pretty much a forgone conclusion that Luck was a lock to win the Heisman, but all that changed pretty fast once Richardson and RGIII starting putting up numbers. I think Richardson was the favorite for a little while in the middle of the season, then RGIII passed them both down the stretch.

Luck is the best NFL prospect, but in the Heisman race RGIII is the most deserving based on what he has done this year. The kid is an amazing athlete and he deserves to win with what he has accomplished this year.

KState D finished 74th nationally, and TCU finished 32nd but was pretty bad at the beginning of the year, when Baylor played them. Texas D was fairly legit all season.

I'm not defending a Big 12 vs. SEC schedule; obviously Trent wins the SOS argument. But Griffin's schedule was tougher than Luck's. Also, the only reason TCU's defense was "pretty bad at the beginning of the year" was because of the monster numbers Griffin put up.

Well, I'm an idiot for not reading your original post all the way through. My bad. Now I see what you're saying. Yes, Griffin's and Luck's schedules are pretty comparable, I'd say. Pac-12 and Big 12 defenses seem pretty similar.

BUT ... TCU's defense was worse at the beginning of the year because it was only returning a handful of starters. (And lost LB Tanner Brock for the season early on.)

Sure, Griffin's stats certainly hurt TCU's defensive rating, but they also had pretty poor performances against teams like Air Force and SMU, among others.

The dual threat factor should put RGIII over Luck. We can have the B12/P12 defense argument all we want, but at the end of the day, who has been the better college player this year?

I'd give that to RGIII.

Where Richardson fits in this argument, I don't know. You can't hold it against him that he doesn't throw the ball. Same with Montee Ball.

There's something to be said about ripping off 6.4 per carry and crossing the goal line 38 times in one season.

Could make the argument for Richardson that Bama doesn't have the passing game that Wisconsin has and point to the fact that Richardson was his team's second leading receiver.

They're all the deserving. We can make a case for all four offensive players and of course Mathieu in special teams and on D.

If I had a vote, it would go to the player who was the best during conference play. I'm not worried about what Andrew Luck did against Duke, what Trent Richardson did against Kent State, what RGIII did against Stephen F. Austin or what Montee Ball did against South Dakota.

For me, that player is Montee Ball.

Huge games against Nebraska and Penn State. Six TDs in two games against Michigan State. And the only of the four to play in the conference championship game.

But I'm not against any of the five getting it.

Sitting on Richardson to win at +1000 (from this summer). Seems a foregone conclusion that RGIII wins it. I can get RGIII at -650 now. Should I hedge it? What do you guys think?
