Would want details (roto, H2H, cost, scoring format, etc.) first but I'm interested.

RE: Fantasy Baseball
Just a suggestion, but I always found the best format to be auction style, 5X5 (Hitters: AVG, R, HR, RBI, SB & Pitchers: ERA, Wins, Saves, Ks, WHIP) or 6X6 with OPS added for hitters and QS added for pitchers.

But I'm down for whatever. I prefer rotto, but head-to-head is fun. Head-to-head allows for more luck, but can be more fun.

I'm good with either snake drafts or auction (assuming the auction format isn't something insane). I like 6X6 too.

The problem with roto is that you need 10 committed participants (IMO, any decent league should be 10 or 12 teams). There's nothing worse than the bottom 2-3 teams who check out by the all-star break without at least having a properly set lineup. I'm not implying that any of you fall into this category...yet. Dubious This can happen in H2H too but I find it occurs less frequently.

RE: Fantasy Baseball
H2H would be better for our purposes because this is a message board and lends itself well to bantering with each other.

I don't mind something small like a 6x6, I usually like deeper category leagues with stuff like holds, OPS and the like.

Count me in. Actually would be my first season on fantasy baseball, so I might need a quick walkthrough on this auction and 5X5 stuff.

Do you play fantasy football? If so this will be easier to relate.

Auction style is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of a snake order, players are put up for auction 1 by 1 until rosters are filled. You have a set budget at the start of the auction, so you have to plan accordingly. I prefer this to head-to-head because every owner gets a shot at every player as long as they're willing to pay. But snake style has it's merits as well (one being it goes by much, much quicker).

Rotisserie (Rotto for short) means all players compete against each other. Basically every stat category gets a 10-1 value assigned to it. The team with the most HRs at that particular moment in time gets a 10 and then the rest of the values are assigned based on who has the 2nd most HRs and so on. So basically most HRs gets a 10, 2nd most gets a 9 and so on all the way to the worst HR team who gets a 1. So the team is given a base number which is all of their ratings added together and this determines the standings. This is a running calculation so the standings may change game to game.

If you play fantasy football you understand head to head. Its simply you vs another player in a weekly matchup so see who can do the best. Typically each stat category (HRs for example) it's its own mini matchup. So you can potentially go 10-0 in a week if you win every minimatchup in every stat category.

5x5 is simply the designation of 5 Hitter Stats and 5 Pitcher Stats.
Base Hitter Stats
-Average
-Home Runs
-Runs
-Runs Batted In
-Stolen Bases
Base Pitcher Stats
-Earned Runs
-Wins
-Saves
-Strikeouts
-Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched (WHIP)

A 6x6 would mean there are 6 hitter categories and 6 pitcher categories. This can go up to a lot. I was in a 40-man team 15X15 league. It was basically run as though you were the GM. It was pretty sweet. Sad to say the league ended this year.

Hope this helps some.

Fantasy baseball is my favorite fantasy sport by far. I love it. It takes more time than football (daily games compared with weekly), but its so much fun.

I'm partial to Yahoo. ESPN would be second. CBSSports would be 185th.

We should probably establish a commish on this thread before moving forward. Also, a discussion of cost too. IMO, it should be something relatively friendly ($20-$50) since we have fresh meat to fantasy baseball and since it's a new league in general.

We have to get a draft date set in stone too. I also think we should wait til the latter half of March, maybe on a Monday-Wednesday between March Madness weekends. I don't want someone to get fucked over by a Spring Training injury. The longer we wait, the better I think it'll be. Especially if we're going to have deep rosters or 14 or more teams. Better for all if we know who has a shot at making the team.

Also, have to decide if we want this to be a keeper or not.

RE: Fantasy Baseball
I like ESPN more than Yahoo, but I am perfectly ok with using Yahoo. Doesn't make one difference to me as long as it's one of those two.

I agree with getting the draft date set and holding in a week or two before the season. I've always found that to be the best time to draft because then you know injuries and who will actually be on the 25 man.

A commish will be important too. Then we can start voting or whatever to establish how we want to run the league.
By my count, TPC would make 10. That's a good starting point. A few more would be nice, but it's at least doable with 10.
