Ever get screwed by a bookie
Sorry guys going to go on a small little rant here. Been betting with this bookie ever week for past two months or so, he has his bets hooked up thru a site, I log in place bets etc.. I have lost a bit always paid him every monday no issues nothing, I had a small winning week that he paid me, Finally yesterday i hit a big few bets, And now he tells me he not paying me, This just sucks. Nothing i can do, He cancelled my account on the website, I happened to log in and take a few screenshots of my account and winnings not that it makes a difference but it sucks, he claims i broke the rules in betting 2 underdogs in a parlay, not any place does it say i cant do that. And even if it is true dont you think he should pay me for all the other bets i hit yesterday... Linked a screenshot not trying to show u guys that i won i got lucky but just pissed off.. Sorry rant over..

You can try this:

http://www.sportsbookreview.com/

I'm not sure if they'll be able to help you with a local, probably not, but they're very good with online services. Might be worth a shot.

Unfortunately, you both are engaging in an illegal act. Unless you want to crack skulls, there's nothing you can do about it.

RE: Ever get screwed by a bookie
We recently got cutt off from a local because "we play too many out of town teams, and parlay the total and the under in the same game too often." - Got paid out, but he was a little shady and took awhile. Apparently he didnt like when you bet his inflated lines especially with correlated parlays.

Sorry to hear your trouble, GMen - just not much you can do but spread the word and try to ruin his rep / put him out of business.

RE: Ever get screwed by a bookie
Unfortunately there isnt anything you can do. The site merely acts as a call center and records betting history, etc. They have nothing to do with payouts.
Sad fact is, there are plenty of wannabe bookies who think its easy and expect everyone to lose every week, but dont have the bankroll to get them through a tough week. (so they stiff you)
Its worth it to seek out a reputable local. They are out there. I've used the same two for the last 15+ years and never had one issue.

You "heard good things about him". That's your only course of action, change the things people are saying about him.

I mean, this stuff can get real shady, especially this situation. So without knowing personal relationships, hard to tell what could really be done. But you can at least smear his name, if you know enough people.

RE: Ever get screwed by a bookie
Using locals would really worry me. Unless you have a personal friend who has used a book for multiple years without issue, I wouldn't wander into that realm.

The danger of not getting paid out is not worth it. There are multiple online books with good reputations that you can use.

Let's just hope that places like NJ eventually legalize sports betting and bookies become a thing of the past.

RE: Ever get screwed by a bookie
Is this local guy using a pay per head as a site. What I mean is the site he uses robust in that it replicates offshore accounts?
If he does, he has the ability to make his own rules for his customers. So he should have not allowed two underdogs to be submitted.

That would be my argument with him on that level. Go to http://www.bookiemarket.com and you can start a free fantasy sportsbook.
Though probably not as good as a pay per head it gives you a great idea of what a bookie can administer on his site.

As far as getting paid by the guy, that is just a matter of how stand up the dude is.
The only tool a local guy has is his rep. Stiff enough guys and you are out of business.

On the other side I have seen some good guys go through bad spells and recover.
It is not the way to do things but at least you may get your cash someday.

Remember it's a two way street w/ credit books. They also don't get paid by shady customers as well.

Except, they're the entrepreneur and he's the customer. Just nitpicking, really, but 'shady customers' have nothing to do with the way a person runs their business. And if it does, that's not a business, that's a scam.

RE: Ever get screwed by a bookie
Ryan,
The bottom line is the reality of the situation. If the guy can't pay it might make more sense to work with him so in the future he might get it.
If the guy is out of cash two things he wants to accomplish.
1. He doesn't want to be constantly browbeat in an attempt to collect.
2. If he wants to remain in business, he will pay at some time. So I think it is best to be a little patient
with the guy. If after you get your cash you don't play again, that's your business.

Just trying to give Gmen some advice on not losing your head.
I've seen a lot of scenarios play out in 30+ years.
Just trying to apply some street sense here.
Let's face it, Offshore's come up lame as well. And you usually have no chance from collecting somebody in Costa Rica.
At least w/ the local guy, you seem him in your area from time to time.

The point of the late\nonpaying type customer is the possibility of cash flow exists which increase your chances of getting paid as well.

RE: Ever get screwed by a bookie
From looking at your screenshot I see the situation as you're just a "small time bettor" who throws 25 bucks on a few parlays and long shots a week and he loves to have your business.

Then you happen to hit a couple.

So now the dude is pissed because he doesnt have near enough "losers" every week to afford to pay off your huge score. I am only assuming this because he made up some bullshit "no parlaying of 2 underdogs" rule. When you hit a lotto ticket for more than 600 bucks you can't go to your local convenience store to collect, you have to go through the state office; I think the same scenario applies here. He doesn't have the money to cover your "lotto ticket".

I would definitely try to work something out with him to get paid. Just be civil and understanding and hope for the best.

Good luck!

I mean, if gmen wants to take the advice and work with him, that's definitely an option.

The reality of the situation is that this guy is collecting money when his clients are losing and not paying out when he loses, that's a scam.

RE: Ever get screwed by a bookie
If you see Phillygodfathers tweets, books are getting smashed all over.

Just to reiterate, in case you do speak with this guy again, they have the ability to limit the bets they want on pay per head like you are using. So any limits should have been set in place by THE BOOKIE.
The bet should have been refused initially.
That might be the most valuable piece of info because he will have no argument.

If he is a stand up guy he will pay. Even if it takes a year. If not than there is your answer.
Keep in mind these guys are probably facing the worst losing year they have ever seen.
See phillygodfathers tweets.

Why are they losing so much? Other than the big favorites covering for the first half of the college football season, there's been a mix of everything thus far in NFL and college basketball.

RE: Ever get screwed by a bookie
So just looked at wagergator.com site that my local has us place bets thru, On there main page there is a list of rules and one of them is no more then 1 dog in a parlay, So i understand him not wanting to pay that bet, But to cancel my account and not pay anything still does not make sense to me
