RE: Euro 2012 Betting Thread
I'm honestly surprised that England tied that up. Great job pushing the ball, but they haven't been that kind of a team so far. When they get behind or tied they seem to get a little too lax and conservative. Excited for the next 30 or so minutes.

Very impressed by Englands moxy. I didn't think this team had it in them. Glad I was on their side though, lol.

Sweden turned out to be a huge disappointment, costing me something like 250 bucks when you take into account the future bets and what not I put on them. I am, however, very impressed with England. I have a few British friends and I'm happy for them. With no money on line, will definitely be rooting for them to take the group on Tuesday.

Betting Russia and Poland tomorrow.

Indeed. Impressive fight shown by England to come back.

I'd love to see the odds for Ukraine - England. Might have to go with +0.5 Ukraine and look for classic English meltdown.

Anyone think Poland -170 PK is a good bet? I know -170 is seriously high odds, but can anyone really see them losing tomorrow to Czech?

I could see them losing to Czech. Do I think they will? No. But it's not out of the question. Only game I really like today is Russia.

Well... that was unfortunate for Russia. Actually glad they didn't advance through the Group stage after the way they played against Greece. I think you can lock Group B's runner up in for a semi-final appearance.

Both of the teams from Group B will win their games.

I'll parlay the two for a million dollars. LOL

Group A was trash. Russia was the only team with a positive goal differential, and they don't even advance.

Disclaimer: I am not a soccer bettor nor do I follow the sport outside of international tournaments.

My understanding that only way Germany does not advance is with a two goal loss (and portugal win). With this in mind, will Germany play more of a defensive game crating value on the under? Maybe draw (frekin ridiculous way to bet on a sporting event, "Yes give me 100 on the draw"???)

Alternatively the Netherlands need to win by two or more goals. Will they play an incredibly aggressive game creating value on the over?

Love the Netherlands over. They have to score, so obviously there will be plenty of chances for goals. The only concern is whether or not they'll be able to finish.

As for the Germany game, they could change their approach, in order to solidify the draw and what not. But I don't think it would be a good idea. Look what happened to Russia when they entered the game knowing the really only needed a draw to advance.

Granted, the Germans would have to completely melt down against Denmark to get eliminated. I could still see a 2-0 Germany victory. or 2-1 etc.

RE: Euro 2012 Betting Thread
FYI.. if you actually think Netherlands wins by two goals and Germany defeats Denmark.. then I would suggest placing a futures bet on Netherlands. At 27.5-to-1, you're getting a dangerous team in the quarterfinals. One that will take on Czech Republic if they advance. Seems like a lock to make the semi-finals. Same can be said about any team that advances through Group B.

Or Netherlands at 7-to-1 to reach the semifinal. Not saying these are really good bets. But if you still like them to advance then you might want to consider them.

I was going to say the same thing :)

But, I support the Netherlands so it's a bit of a homer bet for me.

Me too. Evil Shake (When the US isn't playing). This has been a terrible tournament to watch as a Netherlands supporter. They've had plenty of chances, just need to finish.

I do believe that they'll score enough -- 2, 3, 4 goals -- to have a chance at a two-goal victory, but I'm a little worried about their defense giving up a pair.

RE: Euro 2012 Betting Thread
I'm sitting on a Greece future ($10 to win $800) which I had entirely written off until yesterday's slight miracle.

Expecting them to play Germany and be heavy dogs in the next round, what would you, the esteemed Beyondthebets community, do about hedging this bet?

And for the record I also love this Netherlands future bet. Just put money on it five minutes ago.

RE: Euro 2012 Betting Thread
Instead of trying to hedge this early with a bet on Germany... can you find a book that offers "to make the semifinals?" If so, you might get better odds on Germany, although they probably won't be much better at all. Would have been a good idea to place the bet before they played today. Sorry for the late response.

Other than that.. You only risked $10, so would you be upset if the bet lost? My guess: Probably not.
