I understand that Jay will start a thread about soccer, within an hour BTB will respond. About an hour later, you'll get 1 more reply. And the thread may go dead for several hours. Same thing may happen if Ryan B starts an NHL thread. Don't be discouraged by this. If every sport that can be discussed here has 1 thing in common, it's that we can bet on it. If there's one thing we all have in common, it's that we like to bet.

If worse comes to worse, you'll have Mount asking "why" and you'll have put a new wrinkle in my brain. If you accomplish those 2 things when you post here, you've helped someone else, and that'll pay dividends.

Maybe BTB might think about getting rid of this statement off the forums "But please, no hockey or NASCAR." But keep the NASCAR part. Dunno

Oops. Just haven't changed it yet. I didn't want NHL talk in the dead of summer (college football). But hockey is fine with me, even if I mostly ignore it on the site.

RE: Contributors?
You guys are free to look up anything you want to look up. I don't discriminate against information. If you are unsure about whether or not something is useful, pose it as a question to the forum.

For instance: "Hey, the Maui Invitational starts this week. I wonder if more unders than overs have hit, historically? I think they might because teams get tired from the travel and probably aren't very focused. Combine that with it being real early in the season, the increased heat, etc., and I just think it makes for poor shooting conditions."

Others might tell you that you're a clown for thinking this particular way (unlikely), or they might help you come up with a better question.

For instance, here's a question I've been wondering: "How does Chaminade fare ATS in the Maui Invitational? Chaminade, in case you are unaware, is the host of the tournament but is the only Division II school.

Do they receive inflated lines? Are they more likely to cover? Do they get smoked every time they play and fail to cover the spread by an average of 12 points? Again, I have no idea.

Nonetheless, it's a topic (and a question) that to me is interesting but also timely; something that we could immediately put to use with the tournament fast approaching.

Hmm. Hmm

OK, here's a question: Anybody here want to contribute articles to the main page? Even if you don't want to write them (let's say you just wanted to look up stats or info, and have me write them), that would be fine.

I'm looking for in-depth stuff that would be useful. It would also be free labor, but nonetheless, for many of you, it would be stuff you are doing already.

I'd attach your name to it (obviously) and would also link to your Twitter account if you have one. Also, I can't promise that I wouldn't highly edit what you contribute — I'm kind of picky. Sarcastic LOL

But nonetheless, the option is there for those that are interested.

I would have interest in occasionally contributing something on the NFL. There are several topics that I want to research such as first half betting trends and how teams that clinch playoff spots early fare ATS.

I would like to come up with some kind of article in the next couple weeks if I have some time.

One question, could it be some kind of preview for up coming games of a certain conference? Or something like your previous series of columns about underdogs who have a chance to cover and win outright?

Wouldn't mind looking at a historical of Thanksgiving games. Perhaps, last 10 years. Total might be a more interesting take than the spread.

I think people are throwing ideas out there and waiting for you to say, "Ok, go ahead and write it." As opposed to writing something and then seeing you had previously / currently writing on the same topic.

RE: Contributors?
I started trying to dig into free throw shooting and the effect on covering small lines (-3 through -9), but what I found wasn't very conclusive. I was going to try to backtrack an extra year or two to see if increasing the sample size helps, but things look inconclusive at best. The original hypothesis was that teams cover those small spreads more often if they are a better shooting free throw team.

What about how NFL teams in the past have had an advantage coming off a bye? And how the CBA has negated that advantage with the mandatory time off.

How about Duke's ATS record in road non-conference games? We've already discussed Duke rarely playing non-conference road games... is it because they underachieve in unfamiliar road environments?
