If ...
—You stumble upon a story, an article, a message board thread, a video, a tweet, etc., that you think might make for an interesting post at BTB, please post it here (or e-mail or tweet). —You have a sportsbook dispute, or a complaint, or hear of one, post it here or make me aware of it. I'd also like to hear any other sportsbook related rumors or gossip you hear. —You stumble upon a prop or futures offering that you think is unique or newsworthy or funny (or stupid), post it here or let me know. —You have a story about a tout or a handicapper (or anything industry related), and want to share it, send an e-mail, tweet or private message me anytime. There are a lot of great folks here who are "plugged in" to the sports betting scene, and I'd like to make sure I'm taking advantage of the information (and links and news or whatever) that you all can provide. RE: BTB story ideas, news tips, etc.
How about a post about NFL Draft Experts and how they would fare if they were to bet NFL Draft Props?

Would be difficult to quantity, I think, since I don't have old NFL Draft props handy to match their previous results against.

RE: BTB story ideas, news tips, etc.
I was thinking of a pre-draft analysis and then a post to see who did the best for this draft, but I know that best player on someone's board doesn't always equal they believe they'll get drafted higher.

RE: BTB story ideas, news tips, etc.
I find it to be very difficult, especially in MLB, to differentiate a fair line (ML) between two teams and one that is "too good to be true". These lines exist every night, but what are some key factors to take in consideration when weeding them out? I could rant forever about this, but I feel like I wouldn't be the only one who would benefit from some quality discussion to help identify these "traps".
Thanks in advance. |

How do you generally estimate your edge?

RE: BTB story ideas, news tips, etc.
That's the thig, there is so mch information out there, it is easy to confirm a lean and convince yourself on a play based on stats/factors like starting pitching, previous matchups, home vs road records, weather, power rankings, line movements, public perception, and the list goes on. one example in tonight's board may include tigers at +100. kinda seems to be one of those "too good to be true" numbers. Maybe it's just me....

Also, quoting a previous tweet from @ToddFuhrman, "There isn't always a 'sharp' side to a game". So how do you know how to pick these games off the board?
Thanks. |

Hi BTB,
I have found it very entertaining the few times you have mixed it up with Danny Sheridan. I think he would make a terrific candidate for your Handicapper’s Hot Seat series if he would agree to do an interview. |

UPDATED
Hi BTB, I saw you sent an invitation to Mr. Sheridan via twitter to discuss his increase in followers. While I do think the Twitter topic is fascinating, I was thinking in a broader sense. I should have been clearer, but I would be interested in a candid interview with him that might include such topics as how he got into the business, if he considers himself a "tout", his handicapping philosophies, a discussion of the fees he charges, and his contention that no-one would take his football bets that was made a few months ago. Essentially, what you might do with anyone who would participate in this series. I know some of your previous discussions with him have had an edge to them, and I think it would make for interesting reading. |

A serviceable job, but certainly missing your "Mike Wallace" like flare for followup questions.
Regardless, now that the twitter matter has been cleared up in the USA Today article, I am sure he will be happy to answer any questions you may have. (06-27-2012 09:21 AM)Beyond the Bets Wrote: Covers did a Q&A with him earlier this year, if you're interested. |

RE: BTB story ideas, news tips, etc.
I've always been interested in calculating value when it comes to buying the hook on key numbers in sports. Looking at that margin of victory table for the NFL to determine how often 3 and 7 hit got the cogs turning a bit. For the record I'm not a huge proponent of buying points, I'd rather bargain shop or lay off.

We plan on writing that. In all likelihood, though, it probably won't be until closer to football season. But we will definitely do it. Thanks.
