Advice Please
New to BTB admired the passion of the site from the outside. New to Sports Betting as a serious venture. I am semi confident in Football, new to CBB. I find the coverage of football and information on the teams is far superior. I loathe placing bets without an edge on the game as most do i assume. Having trouble with early CBB, I have won all of my plays on IU but i follow the team intensively. Any advice on what to look at when capping CBB? A point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

RE: Advice Please
My very short piece of advice would be to stick to what you feel comfortable with at first. It sounds like you have a good grip on IU basketball, so start there. I assume you then at least have a good working knowledge of other B10 teams, so branch out to those. Get to know them and their opponents. And do your best to check your preconceived notions about teams at the door. Don't assume a no-name team is terrible. There are a lot of solid teams in college basketball that even pretty big fans of CBB haven't heard much of (see: Long Beach State with an 8-point win at Pitt tonight).

So before you go making a bet on a B10 favorite, do your homework and get to know the other team. Do they have experience, particularly at the guard/ball-handling positions? That can be big in early season games. How do they typically fare ATS on the road? These are questions just to get you started.

Hopefully this helps. I can get intimidated by all the teams and amount of info with CBB; it can get overwhelming.

RE: Advice Please
Thanks Chiefzilla, I definitely have plenty of studying to do. Do you advise staying away from playing CBB until like december? I have seen some people say that they avoid it because of the fluidity of teams from year to year. Also do you have sites you refer to for your info or just talking to others on this forum? I hope i am not overwhelming you with questions just eager to become skilled in CBB like i am in NCAA and NFL. I am break even on CBB so far and about 62% on football. Unfamiliar with half bets in CBB tho. I appreciate your efforts in assisting me as well as any others who may follow.

RE: Advice Please
Do you have ESPN Insider? If so, they teamed with Blue Ribbon to provide great write-ups on every single team.

That's what I've been using to get to know a lot of these obscure teams in the early season.

As far as staying away until December, that's a tough call and it's up to you. Now is when both oddsmaker and bettor don't know much about a lot of teams, so there's a ton of soft lines, just like in other sports. But if you'd feel more comfortable once teams have a month under their belt, that's certainly understandable.

RE: Advice Please
Now is the best time to bet college hoops. The early part of every season across all sports is the best time for profit-making opportunity, IMO. If you have a strong read on a handful of teams and bet them before the market adjusts, you're going to make some money.

In January, it's going to be rare that you'll be able to bet on an underdog that is actually better than the favorite.

Right now, every night, there are tons of teams catching points that are better than their opponent.

This site is pretty legit. It is not the end-all, but it takes seemingly a million different scenarios into account and plays each match-up over 50,000 times. So it gives you a good point in the right direction.

The drawback is that you have to subscribe to the site after a couple weeks. But you get a free trial up until November 27th, and as others have discussed on this thread, now is the probably the best time to make a profit betting. Good luck!
