5Dimes Futures
So I was looking into betting New Mexico 250/1, Saint Louis 150/1, and Memphis 150/1 with pretty much my only hesitation being the possibility of one/multiple of them being 8/9 seeds...

Just looked and it was New Mexico down to 200/1, Memphis 100/1, Saint Louis still 150/1 so I tried taking SLU and NM and could only do a MAX of $10.

This is my conversation with the live help which I found somewhat entertaining. Am I the only one that thinks this is nuts?

Bruce: Let me transfer you to our Wagering Manager, his name is Manny and can assist your furthermore with this
Manny: Greetings
Alex (me): Hi
Manny: Are we talking about New Mexico to win the NCAA?
Alex: Yeah and Saint Louis
Manny: Those lines are too big, $10 a bet is all we are going to take on these teams.
Alex: Okay. But I could do another $10 bet tomorrow, right?
Manny: The line already moved, you can take it again if you want to
Alex: Okay
Manny: Anything else I can do for you?
Alex: How much $ is required for the line to move?
Manny: The $10 you just bet
Alex: The line moved for everyone because of $10?
Alex: Or does it only move for me?
Manny: Everybody get the same line
Alex: Wow, okay so it moves with $10... I just bet them both again, will it move again?
Manny: Depends on me liking the numbers or not
Alex: haha wow you moved Saint Louis all the way down to 95/1
Alex: No value left there
Manny: Good thing you took it when still high, right?
Alex: Yeah right good thing...will you move it back up later?
Manny: There's no way to know that, best thing I can tell you is, check back later.

haha so basically there's some dude named Manny sitting somewhere messing with me.

RE: 5Dimes Futures
This is great. I love to read this kind of things at the forum. It's just like that college WNBA line movement caused by BTB. But my favorite thing was, right when it got to the highest point, a forum member who read that it was simply an experiment and not an actual 'capped lean, took the other side blindly with the extra points BTB hot him, and cashed a ticket.
Anyway, I'd love to ask you a couple of questions about this.

At what book did you make this bet? Do they have you indentified as a 'sharp guy' there? Like, have you take them to the cleaners a couple of times? Did you mention Memphis, and if so, did Manny moved that line also?

** I was actually going to post 5Dimes odds 'cause I think that SLU bet makes a lot of sense, and just realized who is Manny's employer, making my previous questions pointless. I can't believe 5Dimes won't take more than $10 on a future. And I oficially hate you (and this stupid post) for moving that SLU line. Shaking Fist Rant

Yes, I change my feelings faster than pregnant Snooki

LOL yeah I know, it just seemed absurd to me and no I don't bet high enough amounts of money to have taken them to the cleaners.

And funny you say that but no I didn't mention Memphis unless he read my Twitter haha (just kidding)...so someone else must have put down a big 10 spot on them.

It was just funny that during our conversation he moved SLU from 150/1 to 125/1 to 95/1 and NM from 200/1 to 150/1 to 125/1 due to a grand total of $40.

So yea I guess that's that. But I have a suspicion one or both will go back up at some point to get more action as the anticipation for the tournament increases. I told him it's his move and I'll be waiting for him to raise them back up. I can only hope lol

RE: 5Dimes Futures
Update...

Memphis 80-1
New Mexico 100-1

I think offshore futures are just all screwy. For instance, I just checked current NHL futures at my book at right now the San Jose Sharks who have 73 points and are barely holding on to the 8th seed in the West are...+650 to win it all.
St. Louis Blues who are comfortably in second place in the West with 89 points are +1450

Only the Canucks, Redwings, Rangers, and Bruins have lower odds than the Sharks, yet a total of 15 teams have better records.

I know I went off on a tangent here, but I just had to share this weirdness. Also, I can't find any NCAA future listings at my book. Sucks!

RE: 5Dimes Futures
I bet $10 on the Memphis Grizzlies to win the west at 29.5-1 two days ago, and the line is now down to 23-1. Since that time the grizzlies have not played a game, and nothing major has changed in the western conference landscape. I would never have thought my $10 bet could move a line, but with what your saying maybe it does.

RE: 5Dimes Futures
Do books really take that little of action on futures? I just figured more people would be betting them, so a $10 bet wouldn't be anything.

That's crazy. Good story, yossarian.

The $10 "max" bet must be something new.

Yeah obviously I think it only applies to certain ones, the longer shots. I've definitely bet more than $10 on futures at 5Dimes before.

Iowa State is at 300-1. Absolutely absurd.

RE: 5Dimes Futures
I think it's temporary to account for possible shifts in conference tournaments. I was able to bet $100 on a 100-1 long shot earlier and could have gone as high as $500.

That makes sense. I'm sure the higher limits will come out Monday morning. And I'd be willing to bet Iowa St. won't be 300/1 anymore unfortunately.
