Bulls vs. Lakers (And other XMas Games) - atk825 - 12-21-2011 03:53 PM

Bulls vs. Lakers is now down to pick em after a high of Lakers -3.5

Kobe Bryant is now questionable with a wrist injury, Andrew Bynum is suspended, Lamar Odom is gone and Pau Gasol may already check out being pissed that he should be gone. Oh and D Fish is still playing point. I am a huge Laker fan and couldn't be more down about this team this year.

I was loading up on the Bulls between 2 and 3.5 and am still thinking that at pick em, there is a decent amount of value on the Bulls...however, if you want to still get some value on the Lakers being overpriced, I have found that on Sportsbook.com, that the props have yet to correct themselves down to the current line and have also pounded on these lines:

First team to 20: Bulls are even, Lakers -130.

Bulls O/U 92.5, Lakers O/U 95.5 I have taken the Bulls Over and the Lakers Under.

I really don't see how the Bulls, who have had a relatively static off season and were a solid team to begin with don't win this game going away.

Additionally, here are the Lakers last few XMas Day results:

Miami 96-80 Lakers
Cleveland 102-87 Lakers
Lakers 92-83 Boston

Obviously, these teams were in the middle of the season rather than the start, but they also had a coach that they trusted and were comfortable with. The same can't be said for Mike Brown.

Thoughts?

I like the Bulls in this game too. I'm not so sure they'll blow the Lakers out, but in terms of match ups, I think the Bulls have the edge, even with Kobe on the other side.

The line at Sportsbook has been taken down since I wrote the thread. I think Kobe's injury is probably a big deal. I would take the Bulls if you can still find a line.

Like I said, I have watched the Lakers for years and years (even the Cedric Ceballos era) and I just can't see them winning this game.

Already locked in Miami -3 myself and am considering the Bulls in this one. Chicago looks to not have missed a beat with their preseason play while LA looked sluggish against the upstart Clippers.

I jumped on Bulls +2.5 yesterday. They may be favoured by game time.

If I were sure that Steph Curry were playing, seeing how the Clips are already 3.5 point favorites and likely going higher with the building hype, I would be all over the Warriors. Obviously Curry's ankle is the worrisome part of the proposition.

You guys probably already know this, but Kobe has torn ligaments in his right (shooting) wrist and is expected to need 2-3 weeks MAX to recover (didn't require surgery). Still, sounds like all but a certainty he'll be out for the opener against the Bulls.

Of course, now I can't find a place to bet the game, but you'd think the Bulls will be favored by a few points when it re-opens.

Regarding Kobe's injury, the 2-3 week timeframe was not one given by the Laker's training staff or doctors. He's officially listed as day-to-day. Based on what we know now or, more exactly, what we do not know, I would not bank on him missing Sunday's game.

But if you had to guess...

Even if Kobe plays, the Lakers shouldn't be favored. They are horrendous defending the point and don't have the big man advantage to make up for the lack of pressure on the point.

If I had to guess, Kobe plays.

Kobe being injured totally killed me. I HATED THE NEWS

I loved the bulls and loved where the line was going already up to -3.5 Lakers. I was going to wait to see if it went higher but then with Kobe injury, the line went down naturally. hated that news

I'm not sure what the point in playing is, then? Am I missing something? What does he have to gain by risking further injury?

I assume you're referring to this?

Quote:Bryant said he will not risk any further damage to his wrist by playing through the injury.

I actually read it as: there is no further risk of injury if he plays through it.

Could be totally wrong though. Ambiguously worded sentence.

Since when has Kobe ever responded to a suggestin of "No"?

RE: Bulls vs. Lakers (And other XMas Games) - SkyBlues42 - 12-23-2011 09:49 AM

Kobe will play one handed before he sits out. The man has played with an injured shoulder (I believe) and was shooting free throws left-handed.
