Contributors? - Beyond the Bets - 11-16-2011 08:23 PM Some of you have done a great job on the forum and seem to look stuff up all the time. Many of you have done your own research and then provide it; many of you write posts that are essentially artic... ![]() Hmm. ![]() OK, here's a question: Anybody here want to contribute articles to the main page? Even if you don't want to write them (let's say you just wanted to look up stats or info, and have me write them), that would be fine. I'm looking for in-depth stuff that would be useful. It would also be free labor, but nonetheless, for many of you, it would be stuff you are doing already. I'd attach your name to it (obviously) and would also link to your Twitter account if you have one. Also, I can't promise that I wouldn't highly edit what you contribute — I'm kind of picky. ![]() But nonetheless, the option is there for those that are interested. RE: Contributors? - itg_sports - 11-16-2011 08:39 PM and....crickets. Hell yeah I would post on the main page. I would definitely want to post with the angle of a square/fan first, that bets because of my love of sports and competitiveness. I think about sports betting 24/7. From wishing that I could figure out how to make 6 figures sports betting full time (believe it or not that's what I would need) to wanting to start my own booking operation (which BTB may have talked me out of). BTB...i'll send you a "practice" post so you can judge my worthiness. Help me out with the angle though. It might not be some rock solid betting strategy but it would definitely be a look into a successful person that spends entirely too much time betting and talking about betting. RE: Contributors? - Skating Tripods - 11-16-2011 08:44 PM You know I'm in. RE: Contributors? - VincentValour - 11-16-2011 08:54 PM I have a NFL yards per play/turnover/strength of schedule model that I use to determine overrated and underrated teams going forward. I could contribute that in a few days if you are interested. RE: Contributors? - itg_sports - 11-16-2011 08:55 PM BTB, I realize I am one of the misfit children of the forum and I won't have my feelings hurt if I don't get to post on your precious little website. ![]() J/K about the evil shake...serious about not getting my feelings hurt. RE: Contributors? - Beyond the Bets - 11-16-2011 09:00 PM I'm looking mostly for research based stuff. Here's what people don't understand: You don't have to be some sports betting guru or whiz kid or a $5,000 bettor to contribute something worthwhile. A little research (pen and paper) can go a long way. Click here for a few examples of stuff I might be looking for, examples that are so easy even a caveman could do it. All of these, you'll notice, are in response to questions that began as a "Hey, do you know?" Or, "Hey, I wonder if...?" Or, "Hey, is there anything to ...?" You start with a question or a theory or a hypothesis and then research the shit out of everything you can find of relevance to arrive at the answer. Most of what you produce will be based on numbers or stats or research, I would think. If you can put the information to words, great, but if you can't, I'll do it for you. You might also find ideas by searching out the "Stuff you want OTHERS to look up" thread. Make sense? I know it sounds lame, but I don't care. No better feeling than watching people open their gifts. I'll jump off my Christmas soapbox now. RE: Contributors? - Beyond the Bets - 11-16-2011 09:07 PM ![]() If you've seen some of the crap that's been on the site, you will know that the bar hasn't exactly been set at a peak that's unattainable. I think anybody can write a post or 70 about Bill Snyder.
RE: Contributors? - sigGTzero - 11-16-2011 09:13 PM I'd very much be willing to put in some hours of crunching numbers. Not much of a writer but if given a project to work on I have plenty of spare time between the 24th Nov and 10th of Dec (jetting off to Kenya then) to put some hard research hours in. I acctully love the trill of the research more than the thrill of placing/ winning a bet. Currently tracking a few "systems" this season in several sports that I could share the results on. Also found good College Football and NFL databases online that could be used to crunch the numbers. Right, I think a lot of people do. I am one of them. Problem is, it's time consuming. Anybody that bets often, I think, asks random questions that you want the answer to but don't necessarily take the time to look up. For instance, a question I've had: "Does the team that receives the kickoff first in the second half of NFL games cover the second half spread more often than the team that kicks off to begin the second half?" My theory is that they do, but I can't be sure. I'd look it up, but I don't have the time. Or at least I don't have the time today. I guess I'd probably look it up eventually. If you have something you've been dying to know, or something you want to look up but aren't sure if it's interesting, just ask people here. "Hey, if I looked into this, do you think it would be useful?" There are tons of questions that remain unanswered. Tons of them. Lots of timely things, too. I remember earlier in the MLB season that I looked up how teams fared the game after getting no hit. The results were fairly interesting, or at least I thought they were. Anyways, I think you get the point. I want to make this a collaborative effort and get as much information exchanged as possible. My goal isn't to have a monopoly on information. You guys provide info that is just as good, if not better, every day on this forum. My goal with this is to tap into it a bit and to get it out of you, then share it for the public. If you're wondering what your audience would be: Yesterday, there were 6,000 unique visitors to the site and 33,000 page views. It's a modest following, of course, but it's more than nothing. Also, this site continues to grow every day, and I'm not sure if you've heard, but it's pretty much on the fast track to awesome.
RE: Contributors? - RyanB - 11-16-2011 09:26 PM Are there any certain sports you're looking for? Or teams or Conferences even? Just trying to get an idea of the scope/scale you're looking for. And I wouldn't say I have any expertise in any category, but I do watch a ton of NHL.
RE: Contributors? - JayPrimetown - 11-16-2011 09:49 PM If you are looking at anything soccer related, it's my favorite sport and play games often. In particular, EPL, MLS, and international games. RE: Contributors? - RyanParrill - 11-16-2011 10:00 PM Alright, fellas. I have a little problem here. I see we now have some very diverse fans, apply it to the forum first! I understand that Jay will start a thread about soccer, within an hour BTB will respond. About an hour later, you'll get 1 more reply. And the thread may go dead for several hours. Same thing may happen if Ryan B starts an NHL thread. Don't be discouraged by this. If every sport that can be discussed here has 1 thing in common, it's that we can bet on it. If there's one thing we all have in common, it's that we like to bet. If worse comes to worse, you'll have Mount asking "why" and you'll have put a new wrinkle in my brain. If you accomplish those 2 things when you post here, you've helped someone else, and that'll pay dividends. RE: Contributors? - Beyond the Bets - 11-16-2011 10:09 PM I'll take anything you guys want to submit, provided it meets two requirements: 1. It's researched and well informed. 2. It's relevant or topical.
