Forty-nine ESPN experts make their 2012 MLB predictions; Angels, D-backs in World Series?

Every year, ESPN has its “experts” weigh in with projections for the upcoming season. Last year, 45 of them gave their divisional, Wild Card, pennant and World Series predictions, and 33 of them picked the Red Sox to win the championship.

The Red Sox then went on to miss the playoffs before firing their manager and losing their GM.

This year, the Worldwide Leader has added four more experts to the mix to bring the grand total to a whopping 49 predictions. It would have been 50, but nobody could locate the Florida Gators mascot in the Bristol offices.

Not surprisingly, all 49 experts picked Detroit to win the American League Central, but only seven have the Tigers winning the AL Pennant and only six think they’ll win the World Series.

Based on the consensus, the season would play out as follows:

AL East: Yankees
AL Central: Tigers
AL West: Angels

NL East: Phillies
NL Central: Cardinals
NL West: Diamondbacks

AL Wild Card: Rays, Rangers
NL Wild Card: Marlins, Nationals

AL Pennant: Angels
NL Pennant: Diamondbacks

World Series: Angels defeat Diamondbacks.

The Angels are listed at 8-to-1, while the Diamondbacks are 28-to-1 to win the championship. A $100 bet on a Los Angeles-Arizona World Series matchup would pay $2,000.
