Divisional Odds: No drama expected in Pac-12 as USC, Oregon open as massive favorites

May 18, 2012

USC and Oregon fans better not make any plans for Nov. 30.

That’s the date of the Pac-12′s conference championship game, and the two schools are heavy favorites to get there.

In odds released by The Greek on Friday, the Trojans opened as -500 favorites to win the South Division, while the Ducks were tabbed at -250 to win the North.

Their next closest competitors are Arizona (+500) and California (+350).

Oregon won the North crown last year en route to claiming the inaugural Pac-12 title. The Trojans, meanwhile, were on probation resulting from infractions committed during the Pete Carroll era and weren’t eligible.

USC is currently a +350 favorite to win the national championship.

EXTRA POINTS

  • Penn State, despite a coaching change and a forgettable offseason, opened as the second favorite to win the Big Ten Leaders division. Wisconsin (+100) is narrowly ahead of them.
  • It looks like a three-team race in the SEC East, with Georgia (+175) slightly ahead of South Carolina (+200) and Florida (+250).
  • Florida State is pegged at -400 to win the Atlantic. Meanwhile, Maryland—who could fire Randy Edsall after the season—has the worst odds at 20-1.
