Detroit Tigers (implied 60% chance) favored to win World Series regardless of opponent

October 20, 2012

The Detroit Tigers are waiting and wondering, unsure of whether they’ll face the St. Louis Cardinals or San Francisco Giants in the World Series, which begins next week.

Here’s what they do know: They’ll be favored to defeat either opponent.

Pinnacle Sports lists the Tigers as -150 favorites to win the World Series, implying that they have a 60 percent chance to earn their first championship since 1984. Detroit defeated the Athletics in five games before sweeping the Yankees 4-0 in the ALCS.

The Tigers have won 15 of their last 19 games overall and are the hottest team in baseball. They won eight of 10 games to close out the regular season, enabling them to hold off the White Sox for an AL Central crown it looked like they’d never win.

Here’s a look back at Detroit’s odds to win the World Series by month:

Preseason: 10/1
April: 9/1
May: 14/1
June: 16/1
July: 12/1
August: 15/1
September: 9/1
Now: 2/3
