Throughout the college football season, we’ll be providing our college football power ratings, sorted by conference.
Most public power ratings are sorted top to bottom numerically, with the top team (Alabama) given an arbitrary “top” number and the bottom team (South Alabama) listed far behind.
Our power ratings, to be used primarily for conference play, will give you an idea of how much better we think each team is relative to other opponents in a specific league.
You’ll agree with some teams and disagree on others. That’s expected and is unavoidable, as all of us have plenty of opinions but little on-field data to support them.
NOTE: As a quick explainer, you’ll notice that Alabama is listed as the top team in the SEC, followed by Florida (-6) and LSU (-7). On a neutral field, we think Alabama is six points better than the Gators and seven points better than the Tigers.
