We’re not really sure what this will become just yet, but for now, we expect the BTB Network to be a daily sports betting wire with periodic updates throughout the day, Monday through Friday.

You can plan on at least one update every hour between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and likely anywhere between 10 and 25 updates daily.

Odds & Ends is BTB’s look at betting stories making headlines both in newspapers and on the Web.

In today’s edition, we take a look at Peter King’s strange answer when asked about his pick for the Super Bowl, as well as some other notable stories.

A TV station in Boston has low standards when it comes to tabbing something as an “undercover investigation.” The station, Fox-25, took an in-depth look at a bookie mom who was involved in an illegal gambling operation back in 2010.

The big revelation? The mom, currently on probation, operates a miniature golf course in town.

Each week, BTB will go around the country for a peek at the biggest story lines in college football that might have betting implications. I’ll take you conference by conference to look at quotes from coaches’ press conferences, which will help you stay up to date on player injuries, suspensions and changes in the depth chart.

Among the biggest developments this week include Connecticut’s quarterback battle finally coming to an end, Mark Dantonio canceling all player interviews in preparation for Michigan State’s big game at Ohio State, and Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads doing some early politicking for the Cyclones’ national ranking.

The Utah-USC game’s controversial score ruling cost some sportsbooks a considerable amount of money, especially those like the Hilton, who paid out Utah +8.5 tickets before eventually paying off USC tickets after the Pac-12 office changed the final score two hours later.

But what sportsbooks lost in tickets, they likely gained back in the form of free advertising.

In one of the most bizarre sports betting situations you’ll ever see, the Pac-12 Conference office has decided to change the final score of Saturday’s USC-Utah game, which was originally ruled as a 17-14 Trojans victory.

Now, the Pac-12 says, the game has a final score of USC 23, Utah 14. Which is signficant.

Why?

Because many bettors, certainly those that bet the Utes on game day, got the game at Utah +8 or +8.5. Which means that their 5 or 5.5-point spread cover has now turned into a brutal half-point or 1-point defeat. Or has it?

LSU coach Les Miles suspended starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson and reserve linebacker Josh Johns indefinitely today for their roles in an Aug. 19 bar fight in Baton Rouge, La., that left four people injured, one severely.

Regardless of how long Jefferson is suspended (and it could be awhile) and how this affects the Tigers’ season win total (currently listed at 9.5), we know that he’ll be out for LSU’s season-opener against Oregon on Sept. 3.

And that game has seen more twists and turns throughout the offseason than your average daytime soap opera.

The 2011 Greenbrier Classic begins Thursday at The Old White TPC in West Virginia, with Phil Mickelson listed as the +900 favorite. Mickelson enters the event with only one win this year — the Shell Houston Open — and is currently fourth in the FedEx Cup race.

Without  players like Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy in the field, Mickelson should have a great chance at winning for only the second time this year. He’s coming off a second-place finish at the British Open and his play seems to be improving.

Sergio Garcia, looking for his first win since 2008, is listed as the second-favorite at +1500, and Charles Howell III, looking for his first win since 2007, is listed at +1800.

With the third place match between Sweden and France scheduled for 11:30 a.m., there’s still plenty of time to place a wager.
