USA Today analyst and oddsmaker Danny Sheridan went on the Paul Finebaum show this afternoon and refused to release the name of the Cam Newton “bag man.” Sheridan, accompanied by his attorney, reiterated that he has the name of the man but is unwilling to give it up at this time.
This unwillingness, of course, comes on the heels of weeks of buildup surrounding the interview, which began shortly after 3 p.m. ET. Sheridan, an Alabama alum, said his biggest fear was the threat of a potential lawsuit and the possibility of being forced to reveal his source. That, Sheridan said, is why he is refusing to give up the name of the bag man.
Wow, what a stand-up guy.
Except he isn’t.
Sheridan is an employee at a crumbling newspaper that would have folded years ago if not for its distribution agreement with hotel chains across the country. The USA Today is an irrelevant product and until recently, Sheridan had become an irrelevant personality. The man who says he knows the bag man is really nothing more than a wind bag who craves attention and lots of it.
Since most of you know I love creating my own odds, and since Sheridan is an oddsmaker (kind of) himself, I figured I’d offer one of my own regarding this whole circus act:
IS DANNY SHERIDAN A CLOWN?
