Baylor-West Virginia over/under reaches 83 at some sportsbooks, but is it the highest ever?

September 29, 2012

In general, sportsbooks don’t keep historical records of point spreads and over/unders of past years.

You have to rely on databases like this one for stuff like that.

But, as far as LVH SuperBook manager Jay Kornegay can tell, the Baylor-West Virginia over/under is the highest he can ever remember.

After opening at 78, it’s reached as high as 83 at places like the LVH, Caesars Palace and offshore sportsbooks like BetCris and Grande.

At most other shops, it’s either 82 or 82.5.

Based on the database we linked above, there have been five totals in the 80s since 1989 (all since 2007, though), with the highest closing at 81.5 for an Oklahoma State-Baylor game last year.

Ironically, four of those five games have still gone over the total.

So if you’re looking for value in unders in today’s college football action, surprisingly, it’s probably not best to look here. (These two teams average a combined 98 points per game.)
