72-year-old woman’s 10-cent bet on Pick 6 yields $63,000 payoff at New Mexico racetrack

A 72-year-old woman from Kentucky gave a “dime bet” a whole new meaning recently at a New Mexico racetrack.

The woman, Julia Kring, wagered a whopping 10 cents on a Solo Pick 6 at Sunland Racetrack & Casino last week and then watched as all six horses she selected won their respective races.

Kring earned a payoff of $63,000 on her 10-cent wager, which depending on your point of view is either incredibly uplifting or extremely depressing. I mean, imagine if she had parted with a dollar. Or even a quarter.

A 25-cent bet would have earned a return of $157,000 while a $1 wager would have landed her a massive $628,000 payday.

“I spent a lot of time studying, but it was all luck,” Kring told the El Paso Times. “I was fortunate to hit the Pick 6, but I’ll take it. It was an exciting day for me. I love trying to figure out a race. There are so many things to figure out and try to pick a winner. Racing is my passion.”

If Kring has a few exactas or trifectas in her future, it could become a career.
