Who will get the No. 1 NFL draft pick? Latest odds say Jaguars, Chiefs are the frontrunners

October 19, 2012

Yep, we’ve already reached that point in the season where the NFL’s most hopeless fans are dreaming of their franchise piling up loss after loss to land the No. 1 draft pick.

Sure, there’s no “Suck for Luck” campaign, but Geno Smith or Matt Barkley could bring excitement and energy to any quarterback-devoid team.

So take heart, fans of the Jaguars, Chiefs or Browns. You appear to have the greatest chance of landing the coveted top pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Those are the latest odds from Bovada, and here’s the implied probability* of each of those odds.

Jaguars (1-4): 44.4%
Chiefs (1-5): 40%
Browns (1-5): 25%
Panthers (1-4): 11.8%
Saints (1-4): 9.1%
Buccaneers (2-3): 9.1%

*The reason the percentages add up to far more than 100% is because of the juice taken by the sportsbook.

Our best bet? As much as we’d like to say the Chiefs will suck bad enough to earn the No. 1 pick, they usually win just enough games to wiggle themselves out of a Top 2 pick. Instead, we’ll take the Browns at 3-to-1 with such a difficult schedule remaining. They still have two games left against Pittsburgh as well as matchups with Baltimore, San Diego, Dallas, Washington and Denver.
